Character Slot Expansion is an account upgrade available from the Gem Store and bundled with Deluxe or Ultimate editions of some expansions. It adds one additional character slot to your account.

Character slots[edit]

  • Full accounts without or with expansion(s) begin with 5 usable character slots and free accounts begin with 2 usable character slots.
  • Including the original ones, the character slot may have up to 69 slots in total without the expansion Deluxe or Ultimate editions.
  • If an account had the maximum number of character slots before purchasing the Deluxe or Ultimate edition of Heart of Thorns, Path of Fire, End of Dragons, Secrets of the Obscure, Janthir Wilds or Visions of Eternity, it's possible for it to have 70/71/72/73/74/75 character slots instead of 69.[1]
    • As of March 2026, the Deluxe or Ultimate editions of Secrets of the Obscure, Janthir Wilds and Visions of Eternity do not seem to count towards the character slot limit. Thus it is possible to reach 73/74/75 slots depending on whether the account bought the Deluxe or Ultimate edition of Heart of Thorns and Path of Fire before or after maxing out the slots.

Trivia[edit]

  • During 2012 beta testing, you could purchase up to three additional slots, for a total of eight.
  • Prior to the pre-purchase announcement for Heart of Thorns, a single account could have up to 64 character slots.
    • An additional character slot is included with the pre-purchase of Heart of Thorns, in addition to the character slots provided in the Deluxe and Ultimate versions.
    • After the release of Heart of Thorns, the limit was increased so that a single account could have up to 69 characters.[2]
