• Considering only the gemstone, crest or doubloon costs, the bulk recipe is cheaper: it rewards 10 amalgamated gemstones for 75 items, yielding 0.13 gemstones per upgrade, whereas the single recipe rewards 1 amalgamated gemstone for 9 items, yielding 0.11 gemstones per upgrade. This does not take into account the small chances at more than 1 or 10 amalgamated gemstones.
