Spare part
As you open the machine up, you note a spare part sitting next to it, with markings on one side that look brand new.
Talk more option tango.png Spray glue all over the interior. (Obvious sabotage)
Talk more option tango.png Roughly unplug all the arcane connections. (Obvious sabotage)
Talk more option tango.png Further loosen the rattling mechanism. (Obvious sabotage)
Talk more option tango.png Swap out all the new parts with old ones. (Correct tampering)
You pull out the newer part and swap back in the old. Almost immediately, a clicking starts up. You shut the panel, and the machine clicks to a halt.
Talk end option tango.png Step away from the machine.
Talk more option tango.png What should I be doing with this?
This equipment has been poorly fixed. Undoing that specific fix would break this item without drawing too much suspicion in your direction.
Talk more option tango.png How will I know which fix to undo?
Maybe there's a guide nearby that can help? As disorganized as the Jade Brotherhood is, they must have some kind of method to this!
Talk more option tango.png Right. Let me take another look at this... (returns to beginning)
Talk end option tango.png I'll deal with this later.

Talk end option tango.png Leave the machine alone.
Rattling sound
The machine seems to be functioning, but there's a faint rattling sound.
Talk more option tango.png Spray glue all over the interior. (Obvious sabotage)
Talk more option tango.png Roughly unplug all the arcane connections. (Obvious sabotage)
Talk more option tango.png Further loosen the rattling mechanism. (Correct tampering)
The machine runs a bit longer, the rattling gradually growing in volume. You have enough time to close the panel and look casual before it grinds to a halt.
Talk end option tango.png Step away from the machine.
Talk more option tango.png Swap out all the new parts with old ones. (Obvious sabotage)

Singe marks
You note small singe marks inside the machine, as if something inside had been sparking.
Talk more option tango.png Spray glue all over the interior. (Obvious sabotage)
Talk more option tango.png Roughly unplug all the arcane connections. (Correct tampering)
You check the connections and find several loose ones, which you gently unplug. Moments after closing the panel, you hear the crack of sparks and the machine shudders to a halt.

Oily residue
You open a panel on the machine and see an oily residue on many parts, as if a solvent had recently been applied to fix a gummy buildup.
Talk more option tango.png Spray glue all over the interior. (Correct tampering)
The glue slides off the solvent at first, but it soon adheres. As you close the panel you hear things gradually grinding to a halt.
Talk end option tango.png Step away from the machine.

Upon correct tampering
Jade Brotherhood Inventor: Is it the coupling again? (sigh) I don't understand what's wrong... (Junker and Pistoleer)
Jade Brotherhood Inventor: That's still broken? I thought it'd be an easy fix... (Scrapper)
Jade Brotherhood Inventor: Ugh, did it reverse its polarity AGAIN? Hunk of junk... (Sharpshooter)
Jade Brotherhood Inventor: MORE faulty parts? Gonna give the salvage team a piece of my mind... (Tengu)
Upon obvious sabotage
The machine sparks and shakes, then begins to emit noxious fumes. You suspect you broke it a little TOO well...
Talk end option tango.png This can't be good...
Jade Brotherhood Inventor: You want to get zapped? Touch my stuff again, and I'll zap you. You won't like it. (Junker and Pistoleer)
Jade Brotherhood Inventor: Hey, that's mine! Go salvage your own parts! (Scrapper)
Jade Brotherhood Inventor: Gee, thanks for making EVEN MORE work for me... (Sharpshooter)
Jade Brotherhood Inventor: You're trying to make me look bad in front of Chul-Moo, aren't you? (Tengu)

Notes[edit]

  • Correctly tampering with the item gives no suspicion; obviously sabotaging it gives 10 Suspicious.png Suspicion Level.
