Boss phasing

In the game design, Boss phasing or phasing is a mechanic where a boss fight is broken down into distinct stages (or "phases") based on certain triggers.
Mechanics[edit]
There are 3 common types of phasing.
- Mechanical Shift: The boss uses new skills or gains new attacking methods. This can be seen on most boss fights.
- Environmental Change: The arena breaks, floods, changes shape, or simply switches the location.
- An example is the Ankka fight in Xunlai Jade Junkyard raid encounter, where you need to chase Ankka during the phasing.
- Intermission: The boss leaves and you must fight some adds.
- An example is the Drakkar fight in Bjora Marches, where you need to defeat Champion Svanir Tyrant, Champion Fallen Pineshade and Champion Boneskinner in 3 phases respectively.
