Cillian's Journal

It's been a relief to have something to keep track of tales and songs I've heard over the years. Easier to recite or riff on their original lines than to trust it to memory all the time, not to mention working on my own original pieces.

From Orrian shores to Maguuma's coast,
Down fiery path and saga of frost,
O'er seas of jade at world's unend,
A cycle reborn, a world to mend.

Notes: It's fine, but the connection to the Second Scion isn't as strong as I'd like. Maybe someone closer to Aurene can get it right?

Her fangs were out, her blade was sharp
Vengeance stirred within her heart
Oaths and lessons, never forsaken
The Soulkeeper's Her Vigil forever unshaken

Notes: I picked this one up while visiting a friend at Vigil Keep. One of the norn warmasters was rather passionately reciting it from the commissary. From what I've heard, the lyrics of the original song were shorter and punchier, so I've cut back some the excess to honor the original form.

Alas poor Dougal, down on his luck.
An ancient charr relic, a deal was struck.
Friends and foes fell, an ally's oath spurned.
Claw in Keane hands, the addled king yearned.
Peace forged of doom, its ember yet burns.

Notes: This one may be my favorite. It could be abbreviated further, but sometimes it's nice to let a tale flourish a little extra. Funny enough, I heard this one most in Ascalon. I wonder if Dougal knows that hulking feline soldiers and engineers gleefully chant his daring deeds?

Scholarly Firstborn, a burden he bore.
Three factions rallied—a Pact bound for Orr.
Armed with insight and Riannoc's blade.
To artesian waters his Wyld Hunt bade.
Life blooms anew, a legacy made.

Notes: Trahearne's passing came as a blow to us, following the terrors of Mordremoth. I was heartened to hear many tales of him afterward that focused on his greatest triumph rather than the tragedy that befell him.

"That's my cue!" the mad sylvari cooed.
With clockwork knights she struck,
Those on her list. What luck!
"Begone you little pest," she said.
"Desist, my dears, or you'll be dead."

Notes: I admit, I was baffled to hear that something had been written about Scarlet Briar, of all people. Some dubious bard in Divinity's Reach must have appreciated her flair for the dramatic? I guess if there were any Secondborn to write about, she'd be the one.

Gathering Council held, in times most dire.
Subtle as shadow, tempting their ire.
A Barrier she raised, against Mantle plot
To claim For Kryta's throne, but all was for naught.
Her allies struck true. May Caudecus rot!

Notes: Picked this one up in the promenade outside the queen's palace. I've made some revisions of my own, but I feel like someone who knows Her Majesty could punch this up just a bit more and give it a personal touch.

Still, it would be an honor to perform this for her one day. Think of the exposure!
