Cleave
From Guild Wars 2 Wiki

Cleave is an area of effect property that most melee attacks have allowing them to hit up to three nearby enemies in front of the attacker.
Being non-projectile and non-targeted skills, they can be used to hit through obstacles (including walls), but enemies will become invulnerable after a few seconds if they can't pathfind to retaliate.
Notes[edit]
- As a general gaming term, cleave usually means dealing damage to additional enemies without sacrificing single-target damage. It is often incidental, also called passive cleave, as a contrast to intentionally using different area of effect abilities to specifically hit multiple enemies.
