Glyph (upgrade)

This article is about the gathering tool upgrade. For the skill type, see Glyph. Glyphs are upgrade components that can be applied to gathering tools to provide bonus effects when gathering.
Acquisition[edit]
Glyphs may be acquired via the following methods:
- Gem Store purchase, as part of a bundle with certain unlimited use gathering tools or during Gem Store promotions.
- Exchanging a pre-patch endless Gathering tool at a Black Lion Exchange Specialist for the updated tool. The updated tool contains a glyph of the same bonus type. Note, this only applies to certain defined tools, not all of them.
- A rare drop in a Black Lion Chest. This provides an unused glyph of a random type that can be sold on the Trading Post.
- While purchasing certain Infinite packages, 3 Black Lion Glyph Selection Containers are included with the pack, allowing the selection from multiple glyphs.
- For a limited time players who have purchased the game were given one free Black Lion Glyph Selection Container which allowed players to select Glyph of Flight, Industry, the Leatherworker or the Tailor
Mechanics[edit]
- Glyphs may be applied to unused glyph slots found only on gathering tools.
- Glyphs may be swapped in and out freely without using an upgrade extractor.
- When attempting to apply a glyph to a tool with a glyph, the new glyph will be applied and the old one will be sent to your inventory.
- To remove a glyph, you can right click and select "Remove Upgrade." (This does not destroy the Glyph)
- Glyphs applied to limited-use tools will return to the player's inventory after the final gathering charge is consumed.

Trading glyphs[edit]
- Only unused glyphs can be traded.
- Tradeable (unused) glyphs can be obtained from opening Black Lion Chests or purchased from the Trading Post.

Standard Unlimited Gathering Tool glyph acquisition and exceptions[edit]
- All sets of tools come with 3 glyph selection containers, except the following:
- Packages containing
Reap-r-Tron, 
Log-r-Tron, and 
Mine-r-Tron 
Unbreakable Gathering Tools (300 
cheaper than other sets, basic skins)

- Any tool not available in a package will not come with a glyph, except for the following:
- Lucky Dog Harvesting Tool — Comes with Glyph of the Scavenger
- Shifting Sands Mining Pick — Comes with Glyph of Bounty
- Watchwork Mining Pick — Comes with Glyph of the Watchknight, which was previously built-in
- The following tools come with pre-inserted glyphs if purchased separately, or a glyph selection container if purchased in a set:
- Infinite Choya Gathering Tools
- Choya Harvesting Tool — Comes with Glyph of the Forester, or a selection container
- Choya Logging Tool — Comes with Glyph of the Prospector, or a selection container
- Choya Mining Tool — Comes with Glyph of the Herbalist, or a selection container
- Infinite Elemental Gathering Tools
- Thunderstrike Harvesting Tool — Comes with Glyph of the Leatherworker, or a selection container
- Firestorm Logging Tool — Comes with Glyph of Industry, or a selection container
- Earthshaker Mining Tool — Comes with Glyph of the Tailor, or a selection container
- Infinite Glacial Gathering Tools
- Glacial Harvesting Tool — Comes with Glyph of Virtue, or a selection container
- Glacial Logging Tool — Comes with Glyph of the Timekeeper, or a selection container
- Glacial Mining Tool — Comes with Glyph of Overload, or a selection container
- Infinite Skyscale Gathering Tools
- Skyscale Hatchling Harvesting Tool — Comes with Glyph of Reaping, or a selection container
- Skyscale Hatchling Logging Tool — Comes with Glyph of the Crucible, or a selection container
- Skyscale Hatchling Mining Tool — Comes with Glyph of Alchemy, or a selection container
- Infinite Volatile Magic Gathering Tools
- Volatile Magic Harvesting Tool — Previously came with Glyph of Volatility, now comes with a selection container
- Volatile Magic Logging Tool — Previously came with Glyph of Volatility, now comes with a selection container
- Volatile Magic Mining Tool — Previously came with Glyph of Volatility, now comes with a selection container
- Infinite Unbound Magic Gathering Tools
- Unbound Magic Harvesting Blast — Previously came with built-in Glyph of the Unbound effect, now comes with a selection container
- Unbound Magic Logging Pulse — Previously came with built-in Glyph of the Unbound effect, now comes with a selection container
- Unbound Magic Mining Beam — Previously came with built-in Glyph of the Unbound effect, now comes with a selection container
- Infinite Spirits of the Wild Gathering Tools
- Spirit of Raven Harvesting Tool — Previously came with Glyph of Flight, now comes with a selection container
- Spirit of Wolf Logging Tool — Previously came with Glyph of the Leatherworker, now comes with a selection container
- Spirit of Bear Mining Tool — Previously came with Glyph of Industry, now comes with a selection container
- Infinite Cosmic Gathering Tools
- Cosmic Harvesting Tool — Comes with nothing, or a selection container
- Cosmic Logging Tool — Comes with nothing, or a selection container
- Cosmic Mining Tool — Comes with nothing, or a selection container
- Infinite Choya Gathering Tools

- Applying Glyphs to harvesting tools counts towards the Combat Mechanic achievement.
