Lore[edit]

Gwwlogo.png The Guild Wars Wiki has an article on Sacred Flame.

The Sacred Flame has long been part of the Flame Legion's culture. Dating back at least as far as the Shaman caste's rise to power in worshiping the Titans, the Sacred Flame was kept in the center of their Flame Temples and viewed to represent their gods' opinions on the charr. If the flames were burning, then their gods were pleased, but if they went out then the charr have failed in their duties and would be punished by the gods.[1] The Sacred Flames would be tended to by charr Flame Keepers, the most prestigious position among the charr. The Sacred Flame was held in braziers designed in reminiscence of the Cauldron of Cataclysm.

Following the fall of the Titans and the Shaman caste, the Sacred Flame remained but its meaning has changed. Instead of representing their false gods' will, the Sacred Flame came to represent the power of the charr. Those deemed worthy could bend the fire to their will.[2] During the All-Legion Rally of 1332 AE, the Flame Legion presented a ceremony with the Sacred Flame to signify the Flame Legion's return and the power of unity. During this ceremony, a Charr Effigy representing the things wished to be purged, such as the evils of the past, would be destroyed by the Sacred Flame.[3]
