Challenge Modes[edit]

Some fractals have a Challenge Mote at the beginning, which can be interacted with to increase the difficulty. These come in two forms: challenge motes that are related to the Ad Infinitum legendary backpack achievements, and those that initiate the much higher difficulty 'challenge modes' of fractal tiers 96-100.

Ad Infinitum[edit]

Primary article: Ad Infinitum

There are four collections to complete as part of the Ad Infinitum journey, each of which includes completing two specific fractals on a 'challenge mode'. The only change in mechanics is an 80% reduction to healing for the final fight of the fractal. Otherwise the fractal is the same. These can only be activated on specific fractal tiers, and the challenge mote only appears if the collection is active.

Fractal tiers 96-100[edit]

The five highest tiers of fractal contain a challenge mote that, when interacted with, summons a Harbinger of Woe. After a party vote, a higher difficulty 'challenge mode' (CM) version of the fractal is activated. Some of these challenge motes only appear after completing the relevant fractal achievements (however another party member can activate the mote). This 'challenge mode' is much more challenging than the same fractal at Tier 4, however the rewards are also similarly higher.
