I'm making this list mostly for my own reference, as I'd like to unlock the Antique set but not go into bankruptcy doing it. In order to skin swap an ascended weapon, you need an Exotic inscription with stats corresponding to the skin color. This can be the most expensive part of the transmutation if you make the thing yourself or buy it off the trade post. However, for many of the colors, there exists at least one noncraftable inscription with stats no one wants, bringing the cost of this part down to a few silver.
The cheapest inscriptions for each color:
- Calcite : Magi's
- Citrine : Rampager's (all options are crafted)
- Cobalt : Shaman's
- Crimson : Soldier's
- Terracotta : Rabid
- Violet : Celestial (only option, MUST be crafted)
- Viridian : Cavalier's
If making your own ascended weapon to start the process, start with Wupwup (unless you plan to keep it). If you plan to keep the resulting weapon, make sure you save the color of the stats you want for last, and use the correct inscription for the transformation if it differs from the one above.
Calcite weapons can also be obtained from the Wizard's Vault (Stat name: Natural weapons). Violet weapons drop in raids (as Assaulter's, Defender's, Healer's, etc.)
Similar skins Aurene and Sunless can only be obtained as drops.
