The Blood Legion are the front line guys. They're the soldiers who lead the charge into battle and go head-to-head with the enemy. Their motto is: "Overpower."

Charr Bartender

The Blood Legion is one of the four High Legions in charr society. According to legend, it was founded by the Khan-Ur's firstborn son. After the Khan-Ur's untimely death, the Blood Legion fought against their rivals in the Ash Legion, Flame Legion, and Iron Legion led by the Khan-Ur's other notable children in the War of Succession which led into a stalemate and the establishment of the reign of the four imperators in their respective territories.[1][2][3][4]

Soldiers of the Blood Legion are known for their prowess in traditional battlefield combat under the leadership of Imperator Bangar Ruinbringer, a direct descendant of the Khan-Ur. The Blood Legion controls the largest known amount of territory of the charr, having both the Blood Legion Homelands with the notable base of Blood Keep as well as the lands on the eastern side of the Blazeridge Mountains, where the Blood Citadel is located.[5] Tribunes Rytlock Brimstone and Fierhan Sparwind currently lead Blood Legion troops in a cross-legion collaboration within the Iron Legion's territory in Ascalon.

General Almorra Soulkeeper, the founder and leader of the Vigil, was once a legionnaire of the Blood Legion, although some sources claim her to have been a tribune, before her warband was turned into Branded by the Elder Dragon Kralkatorrik.[6][7]

The Blood Citadel contains the Blood Legion Imperator's throne and is suggested to lie somewhere east of the Blazeridge Mountains.[5] It is currently inaccessible in game.

Members[edit]

The Blood Legion is my mother. The Blood Legion is my father. We charr are born into battle. We live on the fields of war. And I...I will die fighting. I'm a soldier, a ground-pounder, frontline infantry. I face the enemy head-on. I've earned the respect of my comrades and forged alliances I can call on in times of need. In the Blood Legion, we're taught the meaning of the word "duty." We are relentless.

"As General Soulkeeper said, the charr were here on Tyria first and ran wild over the entire continent. When humans arrived, they were the first serious challenge to charr supremacy in centuries. But if it hadn't been for the death of the Khan-Ur, humanity might not have survived those ancient days. The Khan-Ur's children, who were also his four imperators—leaders of their own personal legions—fell to squabbling over his mantle, each accusing the others of treachery. They set their legions against each other. Blood, Iron, Flame, and Ash. None of them were strong enough to defeat the other three, though, and in the course of the civil war, the Claw of the Khan-Ur was lost. Yet, their internal dissension gave humanity some breathing room to develop, and with that time we conquered Ascalon."

Soulkeeper grunted. "I served as a legionnaire in the Blood Legion at the time. Our centurion was in charge of interdicting enemy supplies and was overseeing the scores of our finest warbands stationed there. I was on patrol with my own warband in eastern Ascalon when the Crystal Dragon stirred. [...]
"I fell into my own personal darkness, my friends slain by a force greater than I could hope to confront." General Almorra Soulkeeper seemed to forget that Dougal was there, her lips drawn back to over bared teeth. "I became a gladium, a charr without a warband, and refused any aid in my darkness. At last, with the help of a few unlikely allies, I came to myself and knew what had to be done.
"I knew then that this was no foe that a single people could confront," Soulkeeper said. "To have any hope of defeating an Elder Dragon, the peoples of Tyria would have to band together to fight it."
"That's why you formed the Vigil," Dougal said.
"Yes," said Almorra. "And although I work to save Tyria, I also know I act to save myself."
