Shadowstone—ancient seer magic used to store immense power.

Like bloodstone, yeah?

One inspired the other, so to speak. But shadowstone is far more powerful, and more pure.

The Shadowstone is a seer artifact which, according to Historian Tranton, was used to amplify the seers' magical abilities in order to create what eventually became their culmination of a method to store magic: the first Bloodstone. The Reforged Shadowstone appears to be able to contain excess magic within it and has sockets for four bloodstone slivers. Unlike the blood-red Bloodstone, the Shadowstone is yellow in color.

History[edit]

The seers created shadowstones during the previous dragonrise millennia ago. They were conduits used to amplify the seers' magical abilities and contain excess magic within them in order to create what eventually became the first Bloodstone. At least one shadowstone artifact had sockets for four bloodstone slivers.[1][2] Shadowstones allowed seers to amass reserves of magic to perform great incantations even beyond the elevated capabilities of the ancients.[3]

Burden of Choice[edit]

In 1329 AE the Pact Commander, who had encountered a high concentration of magic and was suffering from strange symptoms which included seeing visions of ley-line anomalies, met with Historian Tranton who had uncovered information about what he called the Shadowstone. The Commander was presented with an option to contain the excess magic in their body within a reforged Shadowstone.
