Naming new articles[edit]
Consideration should be given to the name of new articles. Names are documented as seen in-game, keeping the original capitalization. Therefore, the correct form is "Ray of Judgment", as opposed to "Ray of judgment" or "Ray Of Judgment". Redirects to different capitalizations are usually avoided, so keep in mind the proper form when linking to a page.
Commas are also included in page names, for example Greer, the Blightbringer. However, periods at the end of a name, most frequently found in event names, are ignored.
When multiple features share the same name, the following rules should be followed:
- If a skill name is shared by a profession and by a bundle, such as for example the elementalist skill "Burning Retreat" and the Lava Axe skill "Burning Retreat", we adopt the format:
Original Nameis given to the profession skill. In the example above, Burning RetreatOriginal Name ("bundle name" skill)for the bundle skill. In the example above, Burning Retreat (Lava Axe skill)
- If a skill name is shared between a skill and a trait, such as the elementalist skill "Cleansing Wave" and the elementalist trait "Cleansing Wave":
Original Nameis given to the skill. In the example above, Cleansing Wave.Original Name (trait)for the trait. In the example above, Cleansing Wave (trait).
- If a skill name is shared by two professions, such as the thief skill "Smoke Bomb" and the engineer skill "Smoke Bomb", we use the format:
Original Nameis given to a disambiguation page. In the example above, Smoke Bomb.Original Name ("profession" skill)for each profession. In the example above, Smoke Bomb (engineer skill) and Smoke Bomb (thief skill).
- If anything shares a name with an effect page, the effect page should be renamed to
Original Name (effect). For example:- An Apple a Day is part of the personal story and will take precedent over the effect of the same name An Apple a Day (effect).
- If anything shares a name with an object page, the object page will be renamed to
Original Name (object).- For example Chain (the skill mechanic), Chain (object) and Chain (crafting) all share the same name, but the object and the crafting component have their function specified in the name of their pages.
- If there are multiple object pages of the same name, they should be named:
Original Name (name of the map they are found in)notOriginal Name (expansion name).- For example there are multiple Recipe Books objects, currently; Recipe Book (Amnytas), Recipe Book (Lowland Shore) and Recipe Book (Shipwreck Strand).
- If there are multiple very similar pages, consider creating a disambiguation page, for example:
- Fireworks (disambiguation) lists all possible items, objects and skills concerning fireworks.
- A race is starting soon! lists all events of of that name with the individual events being names after the maps they occur in or after their respective festival.
- If there are skills or effects of the same name, the following system is adopted:
- Skills of the same name and same source should be named based to their distinguishing factor. For example, Sorrowful Spellcaster has multiple Elemental Whirl skills. Since all these skills have the same source, Elemental Whirl (spin) was named based on its distinguishing factor. Since the other two Elemental Whirls have no differentiating factor, they were simply named Elemental Whirl (variant 1) and Elemental Whirl (variant 2).
- Skills of the same name but with a different source include the name of their source in the page title, for example: Blob of Blight (Greer).
- This rule does not apply if a skill has multiple sources. In that case, the naming scheme should revert back to the distinguishing factor rule as seen with: Blob of Blight (explode).
- Some skills share the same name but behave differently in boss fights in normal mode and in challenge mode. The challenge mode skill page should then be named
Original Name (Challenge Mode) - Some skills belong to bosses with inconveniently long names. In such cases, consider dropping their titles or shortening their name to commonly used abbreviation, for example: Ambush (Kela).
- If you cannot decide or aren't sure, generally whatever was in game first gets to keep its original name while newer pages should get an alternative title.
The goal is to keep article names as simple as possible, for easier documentation and so readers may find those pages more easily.
