Savior of the Gwyldell is a Eternity's Garden achievement. This collection unlocks after locating the Ailing Gwyldell to the north-west of Infested Thicket. Both the Skimmer and the mastery Castoran Intuition are required to be able to complete this achievement, as Aetherlocation is required to reveal the items for each step. Players must also be mounted on a Skimmer for any interaction with collection items for this to count towards the achievement.

Entry 9

I tried a full does of the antidote on both myself and the test subject. Neither condition seemed to fully stabilize. I even observed as the gwyldell began to ooze with a thick mucus in response. And now the same is beginning to happen to me. And it burns. It's almost as if the toxins have moved from my insides to my flesh, and now I'm covered in them.

What am I missing? Oh, if only I had a way to cleanse myself of the mucus, maybe then would I be healed... But I

The writing abruptly ends. The paper is covered in a thick, pungent mucus.

As the venom sets in, so does my paranoia... I've yet to complete the concoction, but should I succumb I've decided to leave detailed notes of my findings for anyone else in the Inquest who may find themselves in this position. I am... ashamed to admit that I hid my research so that no one else could steal my work and claim it as their own. But as I weaken, I wouldn't wish such pain on any other. Our enemies, perhaps, but not one of ours.

  • Some of my notes are buried along the lake near an ancient temple to the west
  • Some of my notes are buried high up on a ridge near my old camp. I had to abandon it when I was first attacked by the beetle matriarch.
  • Some of my notes are buried beneath a ruined observatory to the southwest. Look for a shrub filled with vibrant blue flora.
  • Some of my notes are buried near a small waterfall of runoff from the ancient forge, near a lab of stewards call the Animal Apothecary.
  • Some of my notes are buried between some old growth in the quarry. I believe I observed some fractured ley lines nearby.
  • Some of my notes are buried near the southernmost border of the far Deepwood, just north of a secure clearing.

Ideally, I'll claw my way out of this mess... But only time will tell.

Berries and Research Notes

Entry 8

I collected some berries near the western temple in an attempt to make the concoction more palatable, as ingesting the paste seems to raise its efficiency. When exposed directly to blood, it burns too quickly. When rubbed over skin, it burns too slowly. But when ingested, it absorbs at precisely the correct speed.

I have, at last, completed the concoction. I've administered it to the gwyldell first. Next, myself.

Entry 9

Damn it. Something is still missing.

After the test subject seemed to be healing. I administered a full dose the antidote to myself. And I hate to admit it, but I have made a critical error. Within a few hours, we both began to ooze thick mucus. And, alchemy, it burns. It's almost as if the toxins have moved from my insides to my flesh, and now I'm covered in them. If only I had a way to cleanse myself of the mucus, maybe then would I be healed. I recall Sebb's early experiments when we first arrived on Castora. On the wavehawks. I don't remember the specifics, as the burning is overcoming my every sense. But the traces of saliva found in their water-propulsing organs houses various enzymes that might... I'll attempt to call for aid.

Entry 7

Every time I need to venture out in search of another ingredient, I worry that I won't make it back. While my Inquest-designated ointments and remedies have kept the beetle toxin at bay, it's slowly starting to take hold of my better senses. My sense of smell dulls, my legs grow numb. The pain grows with every breath. And at the gwyldell's advanced stages of impact, its wings are beginning to grow thin.

Thankfully, I didn't need to travel far to find what I sought next. After the burn on my arm only worsened, I attempted crushing various leaves found throughout the forest. I found one in particular that had an immediate soothing effect when crushed into a paste. I rubbed it over the area and was immediately met with reprieve. I collected what I was able and returned to my hiding place to crush the rest.

As predicted, when folded into the sap *before* adding the floral pigment, the burning effect is minimized. I again tried administering the concoction to the gwyldell... And, finally! It took to the remedy and hardly made a noise.

Blue Flora and Research Notes

Entry 6

Deep in the grove, not too far from my refuge, I've located a shrub filled with bright-blue flowers. The pigment is remarkable and immediately drew my eye.

In many cases, such a color should cause alarm, as blue often means poison. An easy way to test its volatility would be to rub a pulverized petal across some exposed flesh. If the flesh reacts, you've got a winner. I did so using this flora, and behold, I've quite the rash. Exactly what I searched for. If I add just a touch of this pigment to the concoction, I'm hoping that the flower's toxins will battle against the isolated pockets of the beetle's.

I returned to camp and used just a small fraction of my updated concoction on the gwyldell to gauge my progress. It was not a fan. I was worried that its cries would give up our position, and I had to use a sedative to calm it. But despite the creature's pain, I did observe some improvement. Unfortunately, I worry that using enough of the concoction to completely cure the ailment would effectively... terminate the specimen. And until I'm healed, I'm not ready to be rid of it yet.

Entry 5

I've taken numerous samples of water from all over the quarry and channels, but the sample I collected from the forge's runoff is simply miraculous! I'd never think to use an unsterile specimen like this, but there's something about the seer "technology" that purifies, breaking up and isolating the noxious compounds as they collect in the sap.

Ley Magic and Research Notes

Entry 4

Concentrated magic... This entire island is absolutely covered in it, but there's something about the seer's quarry. The ley magic here is pure—untouched. When it's time to fuse the rest of the components together, this will do well.

Tree Sap and Research Notes
Biochemist Smazz's Research Notes

Entry 3

To begin my experimentation, I've collected a vial of sap from the oldest tree in the far Deepwood. I took me a long while to get there on my own. But just as I suspected, given the area's protection from sunlight and intense magical saturation, it has taken on an antibacterial quality. It's unlike anything I've worked on with in the lab. While not an end-all to my ailment, due to the sap's consistency and potency, it'll serve as a good base for the salve. Just like glue. For now, I'll simply take a scoop. But when I'm healed, I'll be back for the entire tree.

Biochemist Smazz's Research Notes

Entry 1

While I continue to mourn the fact that I was not elevated to the role of principal biomancer, being a prime candidate to see Sebb's work to fruition following his passing, I continue to find small joys in my new surveying assignment. While mapping the marsh, I've begun conducting personal research on the native beetle species. They fascinate me, and perhaps I can extract useful biodata for future utilization.

Entry 2

Blast! I was bitten by one of the beetles. A matriarch, likely come to retrieve the larva I extracted. I has to abandon my camp in a hurry. The research I lost...

But never mind my research! My insides burn with ceaseless pain. I managed to drag myself to a secure alcove and administer an antitoxin from my surveying medical kit, but it seems to be doing very little against the beetle's venom. I called my krewe leader for aid, who... laughed at my obvious discomfort. She dubbed my ailment a "fortifying challenge" and demanded that I use the opportunity to craft a remedy in case anyone else is afflicted by the toxin.

While attempting to formulate a plan, I heard a sharp cry from the clearing where I was attacked. Shortly after, a gwyldell—one of the treant-like beings on the island—collapsed on the ground nearby. Another victim. In the days prior, I'd witnessed the creatures tending to the moths and their cocoons throughout the marsh. I suspect one of the beetles got too close, and the gwyldell intervened.

I watched as it writhed against the ground. I tried not to make any sudden movements as to not scare it away. After all, the perfect test subject for my own remedy had fallen into my lap.
