Image Request

Is there a way we could get the base background minus any character? I think I've seen it in a video, but the quality was pretty low.--Rain Spell (talk) 03:36, 7 September 2017 (UTC)

For anyone still curious, it doesn't look like this is possible. You can use Ctrl+Shift+H to at least hide the interface, but your character will still show.

For downloadable Guild Wars themed backgrounds, here are some options below.

1. Official wallpapers

Wow this is an old post, yes there are ways to get resources like this, though a lot of these are made up of many parts so it's a pain to remake them properly. Could screenshot or grab base image though. --Dak393 (talk) 13:46, 5 September 2025 (UTC)

You can also use an account without any characters; I just made a fresh F2P account for the current screenshots. This would additionally enable taking videos/making a gif of the backgrounds. Hazasoul (talk) 15:55, 31 March 2026 (UTC)

Trivia Request

Would it be possible to include a Trivia part with the names of the songs that played in each character selection screen since the game released?

I think they were the following: Core - Overture, Lornar's Pass and Tyria Reborn, HoT - Heart of Thorns Theme and Maguuma Overture, PoF - Path of Fire and Arid Dawn.

System / CPU Load

The system / cpu load is generally quite (way too) high in character select, significantly goes down as soon as no charcter portraits are shown anymore (after idling for some time) and differs greatly between the chosen backgrounds. Castora is by FAR the worst at the moment. What a poor (reckless) use of system resourrces! Necropola (talk) 12:46, 8 November 2025 (UTC)

I seriously doubt that ANet will care (or even take note). If they would care, it wouldn't be that bad in the first place. A player on the other hand who reads this on the wiki might like to make an informed decision and pick a login screen which burns less power, now that they know that there is a difference. I added a column to the new section for backgrounds, as this has been a pet peeve of mine too. Though, I don't see a reduction of resource usage upon inactivity, rather the opposite. Might be system specific. It is also GPU usage it affects on my system. --Hazasoul (talk) 16:44, 31 March 2026 (UTC)
