Talk:Gallery of mount theme skins
Suggestions[edit]
The bioluminescent section is missing two mounts.
Additionally, I think it's worth mentioning these miscellaneous mounts from adoption licenses that have particle effects but do not belong to a thematic group (for now).

- Aurene's Prismatic became a set today together with Aurene's Prismatic Skyscale. Not sure about Oceanic Ray and Mirror Masked yet though. I would say: let's wait for a second mount. --Tolkyria (talk) 23:50, 23 March 2021 (UTC)
- Oceanic Ray and Tidal Lightpaw have now formed a Water theme. Eddy.7051 (talk) 06:19, 28 March 2021 (UTC)
Crested[edit]
Is Crested already a mount theme or just a name coincidence?
- Crested Plainsrunner (Raptor)
- Crested Southernland (Griffon)
--Tolkyria (talk) 23:50, 23 March 2021 (UTC)
- I'm inclined to think that they are just named similarly. There's not much similarity visually --Life Infusion «T» 16:28, 24 March 2021 (UTC)
- "Crested: (of a bird or other animal) having a comb or tuft of feathers, fur, or skin on the head." which they both have, so I don't know. ~Sime 16:43, 24 March 2021 (UTC)
Splitting Blazing and Glacial[edit]
What are people's thoughts on splitting the Blazing and Glacial mount skins from being part of the Fire and Ice themes respectively to being their own themes? Given they all have Blazing or Glacial as the first word of their names, I'd say that they're of their own separate theme to base Fire and Ice skins, plus they make the Fire and Ice theme galleries a bit cluttered at the moment. - Going to go ahead with this, since there's been no opposition to it. Sunlion (talk) 18:30, 26 August 2024 (UTC)
Feedback 2026/05/05[edit]
I just noticed that the Star Blessed Siege Turtle Skin is not being picked up for its group. Are there instructions specifically around editing to ensure the mount image shows with the correct group? --BlueIce (talk) 21:23, 5 May 2026 (UTC)
- Nevermind, I just saw it is there, just not in the position I expected it to be located. --BlueIce (talk) 21:39, 5 May 2026 (UTC)
- Actually, why does that section still show so many of the icon templates where other sets only have icons for missing mounts?--BlueIce (talk) 21:42, 5 May 2026 (UTC)
- Been a long time since I tried to edit anything. --BlueIce (talk) 21:43, 5 May 2026 (UTC)
- It looks like the result template Template:Mount theme gallery does something like "count the max number of skins for a given theme", and always show at least that many rows. In this instance, Star Blessed is allocated two raptor skins so it ends up with two rows, and most of the skins have only one, so there's some blanks. -Chieftain Alex

Criteria[edit]
I have a question. What's the criteria for mount theme? I've no question if the name and the appearance are matching but there are some questionable (imo, not a theme) themes here:
- group 1: By name and appearance (is a theme, no question)
- group 2: By region name (also is a theme, no question)
- group 3: Common pattern name; nothing similar by appearance, just a name or things in common.
- Banded
- Crested
- Crowned
- Desert
- Painted
- Spotted
- Striped
- group 4: Only available for 1 mount; likely just alternate to each other
- Cloud
- Hooded
- Marshland
- Ring-Tailed
- Skyborne
- group 5: Only appearance looks similar
- Fire
- Ice (some are not)
- Storm (some are not)

- I'm not 100% sure if the criteria were ever set. From what I have encountered, saw other edits, and how I personally assigned them till this day, is by simply following a few "unwritten" rules and logic:
- 1. If there are 2+ mount skins with the same name, looks, effects, or idea – the theme can be assigned/created.
- 2. Not having the same skin name is not equal to "not belonging" in the same theme/group. E.g., skins in fire/ice/storm don't particularly have the exact same name, but they all share the same idea and effect across all of the skins – be it fire, snow, chilly effect, or lightning.
- 3. Not having the exact same effect/pattern or dye scheme also is not equal to "not belonging" in the same theme group. Tho, in these cases, skins usually fall under the same name. E.g., themes like spotted/striped don't share the exact same skins across all the mounts, but the word "spotted" or "striped" is clearly a keyword here – all the skins have various spots or stripes on them, thus it forms a theme related to both the name and appearance/idea behind it. Another example would be banded/crested/crowned themes – the skins don't really look similar to each other at all, but what makes them fall under the same category is a certain physical appearance that is shared across them all. Having a "crown" looking thing on the head (crowned), being covered in certain textures/stripes/rings (banded), etc. This topic was also raised before, here.
- However, I could agree that it's not ideal in certain cases, as it's not always "straightforward" when it comes to categorizing them, but for the most part, considering all the mentioned things above, it has worked till now.
- One more thing I could add as a thought/idea is to maybe start considering moving certain themes into the "sets" section, as they are missing only one or a few skins, and we are not sure if Anet will ever complete them. But I would mostly move those that have an obvious theme and would be considered a set, like: Aurene's Prismatic, Aurora Blessed, Bioluminescent, Enchanted, etc. ฅ𓂃𓏧♡ vyѕɴɑιтε ᨐᵉᵒʷฅ (тɑʟκ) 13:42, 21 May 2026 (UTC)
- I'm aware that criteria are never set here and that another reason why we should have one. I dont hate the idea of grouping those skins but it should have the separate sections for each of them. (No need to separate page can just put them all here):
- Gallery by mount skin pattern
- Gallery by mount theme; Only those skin that obviously a theme set should belong here.
Gallery by mount setjust combine them to theme. "theme, where the mounts have various acquisition sources, and by their set, where the majority of the mounts is acquired from one source" sorting by their major acquisition sources are not strong reason enough imo.
- Another thing I would like to add, not a strong idea, but other than the default skins I noticed that there're other "regional base models" that were reusing for other skin themes and might be a good idea of grouping them somehow. (already marked as a theme but you know it is more than that)
- Canthan: Cuckoo Springer • Nian Warclaw • Noble Skyscale • Tigris Griffon • Vulpine Jackal
- Astral Ward: Feathered Raptor • Manticore Skyscale
- others: Gecko Springer • Janthir Caprine • Journeykin Warclaw • Castoran Wavehawk • ...more

- Recent recategorizing
- Remove set and combine to theme, Inquest or Enchanted should belong to the previous "set" section, which imo unnecessary.
- Divide gallery into five groups:
- Group by theme set — Mount skins that share the same theme name and a similar appearance.
- Group by region — Mount skins associated with the same region or location-based theme, which may or may not share a similar appearance.
- Group by keyword — Mount skins that share a common naming pattern or keyword, but vary in appearance.
- Group by appearance — Mount skins grouped by visual similarities regardless of theme name.
- Only available for one mount type — Standalone skins that have the potential to become a larger theme set.
- Hoping it is more clear than before. --Tᴇʀʏ.3065 06:04, 4 June 2026 (UTC)
