Uenno
Uenno
“I didn't leave the colleges for more incompetency.
— Uenno
Uenno, the Historian of the Ward,[1] is a high-ranking asuran member of the Astral Ward and one of its oldest mortal members. She was the one who introduced Zojja to the Ward after they met in Kryta. Uenno helps attune the Commander's communication device to arcane fluctuations so the Commander and the Astral Ward can keep in touch remotely.
Biography[edit]
Early years[edit]
Uenno was an esteemed asuran professor in the College of Synergetics, but got tired of the bureaucracy after years of frustration with the system and went on a long sabbatical to explore the world beyond the stuffy labs and debate halls of Rata Sum. She lived along the outskirts of Divinity's Reach for some time, teaching statics to the locals. She noticed the Wizard's Tower while visiting Garenhoff, and Mabon, a mursaat member of the Wizard's Court, had noticed her curiosity and approached her before recruiting her. To this day, Uenno still collects stipends from the Arcane Council, as they think she is in a jungle somewhere, studying plants.[2][3]
Uenno accompanied Lyhr on an expedition to the Twin Serpent Mountains in the Underworld.[4] At some point, Uenno and the wizard Isgarren met Frode, a broken norn shaman of Wurm, and took him into Amnytas and the Astral Ward.[5] While traveling in Kryta many years later as a senior member of the Ward, Uenno met another asura, Zojja, in a tavern. Eventually, Uenno had asked Zojja if she needed a ride wherever she was traveling; Zojja agreed, as at that point in life she had nothing better to do. Together, the two asura traveled to Garenhoff where Uenno was supposed to meet with an old friend. While waiting for Uenno, Zojja was admiring the Wizard's Tower. Later, the pair traveled to the Black Citadel after visiting the southern Shiverpeaks, where Uenno, as in all other places they had stopped at, had friends she needed to visit, being increasingly suspicious to Zojja. Their final stop was just outside Smokestead, where Uenno introduced Zojja to Mabon while also giving her a lecture about personal security, and they took Zojja to Amnytas.[3]
Secrets of the Obscure[edit]
Act 1[edit]
After the initial Kryptis assault on the Beacon of Ages had been pushed back and the Commander had been successfully pulled out of Nayos, Frode introduced the Commander to Uenno at the local command center on Skywatch Archipelago. They discussed their plan to confront and cleanse the Kryptis-possessed wizards, starting with Dagda. As the Ward worked to pinpoint Dagda's location, Uenno tweaked the Commander's communications device to pick up astral fluctuations so the Commander and Ward could stay in touch remotely and call upon one another for aid when needed.[6]

- Frode: Commander, Uenno. One of our oldest members.
- Uenno: Oldest mortal members. [...]
- Uenno: I was an esteemed professor in the College of Synergetics.
- Uenno: To study the metaphysical is to study the inner workings of the flow itself. It's good work.
- Uenno: But my people are...stubborn. And petty. Bureaucratic, even. It's limiting.
- Uenno: Zojja and I had the same realization. Expecting satisfaction from that city is like expecting a skritt to win the Snaff Prize.
- Uenno: So I went on a long sabbatical to explore the world beyond the stuffy labs and debate halls of Rata Sum.
- Uenno: And then I found this big "lump of bricks" hiding away in Garenhoff.
- Uenno: Mabon noticed my curiosity. And here I am.
- Uenno: I still collect stipends from the Arcane Council. They think I'm in a jungle somewhere, gawking at plants. Bureaucracy.

- Frode: I've never told you how I came into the ward, have I? I was once a shaman of Wurm. But Wurm abandoned me with dire timing... I... witnessed something terrible. My hunting party...
- Frode: No, I'm...fine. I witnessed Sejm, a friend, get stuck between transformations while we were hunting in the north. Something...wrong happened. Something dark. I couldn't trust the spirits after that.
- Frode: My faith was gone. I left my homestead—I couldn't look my family in the eye. I didn't think Arina would miss me, anyway. I left to be on my own.
- Frode: Isgarren and Uenno found me next, having witnessed what I did. They brought me to Amnytas. I didn't truly heal until he sat with me—Mabon. He helped me work through that trauma.

- Uenno: Dagda and Isgarren will need to be "cleansed," so to say, of their Kryptis possession before they can aid us.
- Uenno: Dagda is our first target. We believe she's hiding nearby, probably attempting to cleanse herself of any unwanted guests.
- Uenno: As soon as we can confirm her location, we'll call on you.
- Uenno: Give me your...thing. The one you use to talk to your friends from far away.
- <Character name>: My comms device? Oh, sure—
- Uenno: I do not miss the ever-changing nature of technology... There.
- Uenno: I've attuned your little device to pick up on arcane fluctuations. We'll be able to contact you anywhere.
- Uenno: Even if you stumbled into another rift.
