Frode
Frode
“When I'm out here, at least I have some influence on the outcome. Besides, it means a lot to the soldiers to see the warden leading the fight. Proves I'm not asking anything of them I wouldn't do myself.
— Frode
Frode Wurmsbearer[1] is the former norn shaman of Wurm and the current Warden of the Astral Ward. He has a daughter, Arina Copperwolf, with his late wife Ragna Copperwolf. Alongside Mabon, Frode petitioned twice to recruit the Pact Commander into the Astral Ward, though both attempts were unsuccessful.[2][3]
Biography[edit]
Early years[edit]
Frode Wurmsbearer was a shaman of Wurm and married Ragna Copperwolf, a shaman of Wolf, who gave birth to their child Arina Copperwolf in winter. Eir Stegalkin provided Frode and Ragna with herbs that had aided Eir in giving birth to Braham Eirsson. Frode wished that Arina would grow to follow Wolf rather than Wurm as Frode believed that his teachings were harsher and angrier.
Frode and his friend Sejm left on an expedition north to Saldistead just before spring as Knut Whitebear had grown worried that the homesteaders would die in isolation unless help arrived and because refugees from the north had told worrisome tales. By the time they reached the stead, they found no survivors, only bodies. With their rations diminished, the pair decided to hunt at a nearby lake. Sejm heard a call from what he believed to Wurm and rushed forward, only to end up transforming painfully in front of Frode's eyes. Sejm fell beneath the ice as it cracked wide open, and Frode witnessed his friend sinking into the depths. Frode returned home alone.
Five years passed, but Frode could not forget the harrowing moments with his lost friend in the north. After Ragna had passed away, Arina began training with the elders, while Frode avoided her as he did not want her to think of him as a hollow replacement. Having lost his faith in Wurm while being haunted by past events, Frode eventually left, hoping that Arina would forget about him and find more strong-willed people to look up to.[1]
Frode was eventually found by and recruited into the Astral Ward by Isgarren and Uenno. After spending a decade healing his wounds with Mabon's guidance in Amnytas while learning the ways of the Astral Ward, he reunited with Arina whom Mabon's had brought to the Astral Ward after she had gone looking for Frode as Mabon believed that father and daughter needed each other.[4] Shortly after, Frode was hand-chosen to be the next Warden to lead the Astral Ward by the previous ailing Warden, Levente.[5]

Through the Veil[edit]
Frode was the first person to welcome the Wayfinder back in The Wizard's Tower. He shared some good news about ongoing recovery of the Astral Ward, despite an occasional Kryptis or two showing up... as well as a surprising information that Isgarren and Peitha are "getting along". Once Frode led the Wayfinder to meet the two, that very same information quickly proved to be a jest when Isgarren clearly exhibited signs of anxiety caused by Peitha's presence. When the wizard asked the Wayfinder for a private conversation, Frode swiftly left the room. Unbeknownst to him, a part of that conversation contained rumors regarding his daughter, Arina, who was likely alive, but stuck in unfriendly lands of Nayos. While Isgarren began preparations to open a portal, Frode led the Wayfinder to Zojja, who just recently undertook an ascension. Later, Frode helped defend the tower from a sudden attack of Kryptis from an abnormally strong Kryptis Rift. He stayed behind while Isgarren, Peitha, the Wayfinder and Zojja entered the rift in order to close it from the other side.

Dialogue[edit]
Skywatch Archipelago[edit]
- In Wizard's Ascent before completing Weaponmaster Training
- You'll need all the help you can get against these new foes. We can give you special training developed by an ancient Astral Ward weaponmaster.
- What kind of special training?
- The kind that will teach you to use weapons that would otherwise require elite specializations. Weaponmaster Training will let you use those weapons no matter what your specializations are.
- Sounds useful. What do I need to do?
- It's already done. The knowledge was only waiting for you to accept it. Being part of an ancient magical order has its upsides.
- Much appreciated.
- No thanks.
- No thanks.
The Wizard's Tower[edit]
- After completing Frode's Journal
- You...found this? Wayfinder, thank you. I haven't read it myself in years, but I'd planned on giving it to Arina. I... Thank you.
- How are things now that the fighting with Nayos is over? (after completing Sovereign of Nayos)
- Honestly, it's hard work, this whole peacekeeping thing. Planning, negotiating, rebuilding...exercises a lot of muscles I haven't used in a long time. But it beats the alternative.
- And how's Arina?
- Great question, Wayfinder. Happy to say I have no idea! I haven't seen her—she's stuck to her promise to get that R & R. Hope you've tried to do the same...but somehow I doubt it.
- As you say, peacekeeping is hard work.
- Talk to you later, Frode.
- Of course, Frode.

- Frode: I've never told you how I came into the ward, have I? I was once a shaman of Wurm. But Wurm abandoned me with dire timing... I... witnessed something terrible. My hunting party...
- Frode: No, I'm...fine. I witnessed Sejm, a friend, get stuck between transformations while we were hunting in the north. Something...wrong happened. Something dark. I couldn't trust the spirits after that.
- Frode: My faith was gone. I left my homestead—I couldn't look my family in the eye. I didn't think Arina would miss me, anyway. I left to be on my own.
