Otho's voyage to retrieve the keystone was successful. At least, what he was able to salvage of it.

While Manikaz's efforts to open the gate and secure our escape from this prison have been fine, we now look to the keystone for answers... Hope, albeit subtle, builds in the city.

Manikaz has fully turned his attention to the keystone now. A pup, staring with longing eyes at a raw bone. I've asked him to pivot his efforts to revitalizing it, hopeful that it may be powerful enough to open the gate, and he has taken the challenge gladly.

He has found renewed passion, or encouragement, and perhaps I was too critical when he asked to leave the human village intact. To allow them to thrive and dwell so close to our monument of victory felt wrong, but I can admit my mistake. The village will serve as a farm now, blood to be cast upon the new stone. And ever since that man arrived—Saul, with those proud, oblivious eyes—he's commanded his followers to hand us offerings as one may leave food at the altar of their god. We are their gods, and their devotion is sweet.

Fully powered, the keystone may allow us to open the gate—which has proven stubborn at best. We feed the stone what we can, and thus the gate, and yet it refuses to budge. As is the way of ancient magics, which are particular in their needs.

And yet, we've no choice but to continue. If this works, we can forgo the promise of prophecy.

The keystone is tucked within the deepest well of our city—out of sight, hopefully far from the nose of an Elder Dragon. And yet, our efforts to open it fail and fail again. It is sealed by magic that eludes myself, Manikaz, and Otho—and the latter is losing patience with us. The table of the Arch Steward no longer invites the city's alchemists to delineate, even as we stare down the very real possibility of ruination. All we can do is continue to try.

Even shut, the gate seeps with vile energies from the Mists...As deep as it rests within Bava Nisos, hopefully those energies will remain at bay. No one is allowed near it, except those with high tolerance for the spectral energies that corrode the air around it.

Dire days. Damned days...

The gilded who've traveled through the veil have built an immunity to the gate's poison, but the gildless are vulnerable. They're falling ill by the day... By the hour... They've been maddened! Our children!

Otho has left the city now—I suspect to protect his kin—leaving myself and Manikaz to our work. And the Arch Steward is silent. I admittedly have little urge to continue, myself, and the Blood Phenom never leaves his laboratory. I can smell it from the library.

Was bringing the gate here an act of desperation? Was there ever hope for us, and is prophecy unpreventable?

Komalie very well may fall, and if it does, so will Bava Nisos. They will come for us. Half of our ranks are ill or enraged by the poison's curse now, even those we thought tolerant. Every day since Otho returned with the gate, its otherworldly energies have penetrated every corner and every mind. The dead nearly outnumber the living.

All of our children, the gildless—they're all gone. All of them. Gone.

And then there's Manikaz. He, in absolute desperation, has turned into a being of pure bloodlust. He is now done with the city of Gavril—the White Mantle surrendered all of them to us. And now he turns to them, our devout. All blood for the stone, even though that effort feels far from useful. The gate does not want to be opened, and the keystone is plump from the feast.

It is done. Komalie has opened. Was any of it worth it?

Some prepare for battle. I will wait for death.
