Walkthrough[edit]
| Objective | Map | Notes | |
|---|---|---|---|
| 1 | Someone at the Alliance Staging Ground must know more. | Can be started by overhearing conversation between Ocean Bloom and Blinding Sunrise just south of Alliance Staging Ground Waypoint. | |
| 2 | Talk to Ocean Bloom and Blinding Sunrise about their missing friend. | Southwest of The Obsidian Rise. | |
| 3 | Ocean Bloom and Blinding Sunrise said to seek out Quiet Lagoon, who is scouting in the north. | Quiet Lagoon is the Mistburned Barrens: Search-and-Rescue Challenge NPC, in the Hidden Sacrarium. | |
| 4 | Quiet Lagoon is having me look for his missing scouts. Riven Marl should be among them. | Start the Mistburned Barrens: Search-and-Rescue Challenge and interact with all 12 scouts. You can do this in multiple runs. | |
| 5 | Riven Marl was not among the missing scouts. Maybe they are lost somewhere else in these ruins. | Interact with the Strange Box just east of Hidden Sacrarium Vista. |
Dialogue[edit]
- Upon approaching Ocean Bloom and Blinding Sunrise
- Ocean Bloom: Marl hasn't checked in, have they?
- Blinding Sunrise: Weren't they with Quiet Lagoon's scouting party? None of them have checked in yet.
- Ocean Bloom: Something's amiss, it is. Should've been back two days ago.
- Ocean Bloom: If anything's happened to them out here, their maw'll have my pelt for a rug.
- Blinding Sunrise: Now, then. They're full-grown, and you and I have our own mission to think of.
- Ocean Bloom: Well. You know I get my feelings about things, and I've got the feeling somebody ought to go looking for them.
- Blinding Sunrise
- Wayfinder, we could use your help. Our friend Riven Marl has not reported in for some time.
- Of course. Any clues as to where they might be?
- They were part of the scouting mission to the north. If you can find Quiet Lagoon, he may have more information.
- I'll head north immediately.
- I'm sorry, I have urgent business elsewhere.
- Quiet Lagoon
- Wayfinder, it's good to see you. I'm managing a team of scouts that are currently scoping out the north. Unfortunately, none of them have checked in for a while... I'm getting worried.
- Was Riven Marl part of your scouting party?
- Yes. They're among the scouts lost in the ruins, if you want to help look.
- I'll do that.
Inside the Strange Box[edit]
- Before playing the game
- <Character name>: Riven Marl!
- ???: Once is chance. Twice suggests a pattern. Have insects finally come to pick at the corpse of Bava Nisos?
- <Character name>: What is this place?
- ???: My sanctuary. A playing field. My pieces are arrayed—but where are yours?
- <Character name>: Pieces ...? These are living beings, not your pawns!
- ???: They are bound by the rules of the game. As I am...and as you are, now.
- ???: Should you defeat me, my pieces are yours. But if I defeat you, your pieces are mine.
- Riven Marl: Wayfinder... The others... They're only husks. If she wins...claim you, she will!
- ???: True. Since you have no pieces for me to capture, you wager yourself.
- After playing the game
- ???: It seems I cannot hold what death surrenders.
- ???: But an exception is not a victory. The piece you clearly have your eye on stays with me.
- ???: Although...perhaps I'm not very attached to it yet. I could be tempted to permit a rematch—if you come prepared.
- <Character name>: Challenge accepted. Marl, your bearkin are waiting for you. I'll be back to take you home.
- Riven Marl: Pieces... My carvings. Wayfinder, bring...my carvings.
- Sybil
- Who are you?
- Sybil. What titles I held no longer matter, do they? So it goes.
- You're alive.
- As long as I remain here. My sanctuary suspends time but cannot stop it—and the shock of leaving after centuries has always proven fatal.
- You didn't plan to leave?
- I certainly did. I tried not long after I entered, but all the world was in ruins. By the time it mended itself, I...had few options.
- And so you trapped these "pieces" here to fight for you?
- They simply played and lost. If I had any interest in bloodshed, I would have died with the others.
- That reason may be even worse.
- You may sit and fume about it, if you like. I don't mind company.
- I'll pass.
- I'll be back to finish this.
- I'll be back to finish this.
- I'll be back to finish this.
- So it goes.
- I'll be back to finish this.
Notes[edit]
- After finishing this collection, the Mursaat's Game collection will start.
- Step 4 requires that you interact with all 12 scouts, but you do not have to interact with all 12 in the same run. If you miss some, restart the adventure and focus on getting the final ones you missed to unlock it. However, you will still need to get all 12 in one run to complete the Gold for the zone mastery.
