Public instance
"Convergence" redirects here. For other uses, see Convergence (disambiguation). Public instances[1] or Convergences (since the release of the Secrets of the Obscure expansion) are squad-based PvE instances of up to 50 players (80 in the case of some older private instances) for level 80 characters. Unlike open world meta events, public instances offer more challenging encounters while retaining the scale of large group coordination.
As with open world, some public instances are scaled to the number of players present, allowing these encounters to be completed with a low number of players.

Accessing public instances[edit]
Players can participate by selecting to join a public group, or joining dedicated groups listed in the LFG tool under the respective zone category.
- Eye of the North public instances
Living World Season 1 public instances are accessible by talking to the Mist Stranger in Eye of the North, or the respective NPC in the open world.
- Available to all players who have at least one character level 80, no expansions are required.
Dragonstorm is accessible by talking to Brek Harrowflight in Eye of the North.
- The Path of Fire expansion is required. The Icebrood Saga is not required, despite Dragonstorm originating from that narrative release.
- Automatically unlocked account-wide regardless of story completion.
- Convergences
Convergence: Outer Nayos is accessible by interacting with the portal at The Wizard's Tower in Rift Hunter Lounge.
- The Secrets of the Obscure expansion is required.
Convergence: Mount Balrior is accessible by interacting with the portal in the Harvest Den in Lowland Shore.
- The Janthir Wilds expansion is required.

- Dragon Arena public instance can only be accessed during Dragon Bash, accessed by talking to Halstein in Hoelbrak.
Event schedule[edit]
- Notes: The Tower of Nightmares and The Battle For Lion's Arch public instances can be entered at any time; the timer is promoting time in Eye of the North between other events.
- Weekly Convergence Bosses
The active convergence boss(es) change(s) every week at some point in time between Tuesday 00:10 and Tuesday 01:30.

- ArenaNet has used several other names for public instances, including: squad mission,[2] instanced group encounter,[3][1] world boss encounter or meta event encounter.[4]
- Since the release of the Secrets of the Obscure expansion, ArenaNet has been using Convergence for public instances.
