Foundry of Failed Creations
“Titans are forged at the "Foundry of Failed Creations." Nasty place, according to the slim accounts that the Priory has. An ethereal fire billows at the core of the foundry. A fire so hot, it can meld souls together. Not sure where those souls are sourced, but get enough of them and, bam, you get a titan!
The Foundry of Failed Creations is a section of the Domain of Anguish which itself is located in the Realm of Torment in the Mists. Thousands of titans have historically originated from this place, forged in the ethereal fire from tormented souls.
Getting there[edit]
It can be accessed through the Absolution story chapter Salvation's Cost.
History[edit]
Early history[edit]
After Abaddon, the fallen God of Knowledge and Water, and his Margonite followers had been imprisoned in the Realm of Torment in the aftermath of their insurrection against the other gods in 1 BE, the foundry was an area in the Domain of Anguish used as a Margonite prison operated by the Five Gods' Forgotten servants, holding particularly troublesome prisoners. One of those prisoners was "The Fury," a general of the former god Dhuum. After it broke free, the Fury sundered and reassembled its surroundings to reflect its twisted mind. It took control of the prison in service to Abaddon as a staging area to send forces through the Door of Komalie to Tyria. The Fury also oversaw the creation of titans, demonic beings which were created by twisting tormented souls.[1][2][3]
Guild Wars[edit]
In 1072 AE, Abaddon's servant Vizier Khilbron manipulated the Hero of Ascalon and their allies to destroy the soul batteries which had been used by the mursaat to keep the Door of Komalie sealed on the Ring of Fire islands, and the Fury sent its titans through to conquer Tyria for Abaddon. Khilbron used the Scepter of Orr to command the titans to invade various regions of Central Tyria. However, the Door was quickly closed again using the soul of Khilbron, and the full titan army could not get through.[2][4][5]
In 1075 AE, after Abaddon had been slain by the Hero of Nightfall and their allies, the Margonite demon Mallyx the Unyielding used the Foundry of Failed Creations as part of his staging grounds to muster an army against Abaddon's successor Kormir, recruiting the Fury and other Lords of Anguish to assist him in his rebellion.[6] With the help of the Order of Whispers and the Forgotten wardens, the Hero of Nightfall fought through the foundry, eliminating the remaining titan horde and the Fury, stopping the creation of more titans.[7][8] The wizard Isgarren visited the foundry some time later, cleaning after the heroes.[9]
Janthir Wilds[edit]
As of 1337 AE, the foundry had been relit by an unknown force and in turn produced the three titan progenitors of Janthir: Greer, the Blightbringer, Decima, the Stormsinger, and Ura, the Steamshrieker. Upon witnessing titans once again roaming the earth, the revenant echo of Mallyx wondered out loud if the foundry was still lit to explain the titans' appearance.[10] Lyhr of the Wizard's Court collaborated with Steward Gixx of the Durmand Priory to investigate the possibility of the foundry's activation creating more titans.[11] Meanwhile Scholar Glenna investigated titan appearances on Mount Balrior and their origins in the foundry, and resolved to discuss the matter with the god Grenth's First Follower Desmina in the Underworld to figure out the Tyrian Alliance's next course of action.[3]

- This instance can only be visited during the Guild Wars 2: Janthir Wilds chapter Salvation's Cost, released with Absolution.
