Fractal Incursion
“The impact of the commander's adventures in Nayos and Janthir has had repercussions across Tyria, but also in the Mists beyond. Simmering distortions are beginning to erupt, ejecting monstrous creatures from the Fractals of the Mists into Tyria.
The mysterious Mist Stranger calls for your aid, with a plan formed alongside the Astral Ward to calm the Mists. Join them in Lion's Arch to embark on an adventure into the Fractals of the Mists and across Tyria!
— Release
The Fractal Incursion was a month-long special event tied to the Fractals of the Mists, designed to help players begin or progress their fractal journeys. In addition to limited-time Wizard's Vault offers and rewards from Fractal Incursion achievements, the update permanently added the fractal quickplay mode, Incursive Investigation achievements, and its associated Legendary Eikasia, Mists-Grasper gloves.[1]

Mail[edit]
Mist Stranger Fractal Incursion Hero, The Mists tremble and warp as the impact of recent events permeates the beyond. The Astral Ward has named it a fractal incursion, as Tyria risks a deluge of malicious attacks from fractal recreations. I am calling for your aid to stabilize the disturbance via the Fractals of the Mists in Lion's Arch. Let us meet there, and I will explain how we may avert this crisis.—Your Ally Single-Use Fractal Gate Portal Scroll

Lion's Arch or Fractal Incursion Conference[edit]
- Approaching the Mist Stranger in Lion's Arch for the first time
- (If asura)
- <Character name>: I got your letter! Summarize the situation.
- (If charr)
- <Character name>: Got your letter. What's the crisis?
- (If human)
- <Character name>: I got your letter. What's today's crisis?
- (If norn)
- <Character name>: Got your letter. Where's the crisis?
- (If sylvari)
- <Character name>: I received your letter. How can I help?
- Mist Stranger: The Mists are the background of Tyria, the world between worlds, and a realm of possibilities both good and ill.
- Mist Stranger: From its chaos, an eruption looms. The state of Tyria's walls is not strong; without defenders, there will be harm.
- Mist Stranger: I am calling such heroes to arms. By bringing actuality in these fractals, the erosion of possibility will subside.
- (If asura)
- <Character name>: I'll seize any opportunity to study the fractals. I'm in.
- (If charr)
- <Character name>: Doesn't sound good. I'll do what I can.
- (If human)
- <Character name>: That could get dangerous fast. I'm on the case.
- (If norn)
- <Character name>: I was looking for a fight; my muscle were starting to cool. Sign me up.
- (If sylvari)
- <Character name>: That sounds quite daunting, doesn't it? I can lend a hand.
- Mist Stranger: I see a familiar light in your spirit, hero. Many allies have joined me. Speak with them to gain their insight.
- Approaching the Mist Stranger in Lion's Arch after finding Agony-Torn Gloves
- Mist Stranger: What a strange thing to have found. Perhaps this is a small piece of "fortune" among the disturbance you face.
- Mist Stranger: Confer with the others and myself, and let us turn this lost shell into a tool fit for a hero's purpose.
- Approaching the Mist Stranger in Lion's Arch after completing Incursive Investigation: First Recursion and after Fractal Incursion week one.
- Mist Stranger: Your strength befits the title of hero. The turmoil of the Mists is lessened...but not yet subdued.
- Mist Stranger: I ask you to continue your efforts. Resolve fractals and raise up your fellows to meet this challenge.
- Approaching the Mist Stranger in Lion's Arch after completing Incursive Investigation: Second Recursion and after Fractal Incursion week two.
- Mist Stranger: The restoration of the artifact you discovered proceeds apace with resolution in the Mists.
- Mist Stranger: A welcome victory draws close, hero. Those of us here will lend what assistance we can.
- Approaching the Mist Stranger in Lion's Arch after completing Incursive Investigation: Third Recursion and after Fractal Incursion week three.
- Mist Stranger: My congratulations to you, hero. The tremors now subside into ripples, and the danger from the Mists recedes.
- Mist Stranger: This peace is the product of your effort and that of the comrades who joined you. Allow me to name myself among them.
- Mist Stranger: I am Razah, born of the Mists. In worlds and times beyond this, I will be your ally.
- <Character name>: I always welcome new allies.
- Mist Stranger: Ah. That is... We will doubtless meet again. Until then, may the Mists favor your path.
Talking to the Mist Stranger[edit]
- With characters below level 80
- I applaud your bravery, hero, but you are not yet prepared for the fractals. Once you have reached level 80, return, and I will tell you all I am able to.
- I'll be back once I've gained a few levels, then.
- With level 80 character
- Thank you for coming to the aid of the Mists and Tyria, hero. I will assist in any way I can.
- (If step 2 of Incursive Investigation: Working Together is not completed)
- I'm ready to proceed. What's the next step?
- By clearing fractals and combating the effects of the incursions in Tyria, you can restore stability to the boundary between worlds. To hasten this, we have prepared a new entryway to the Mists.
- A new entryway?
- Yes. The fractals quickplay entrance will match you with a group of likeminded heroes. To ensure success, I will also endeavor to lend what aid I can to you and your allies.
- Sounds good. Let's get to it.
- Let's talk about the fractal incursions.
- (Before finding Agony-Torn Gloves)
- The incursion phenomena[sic] stems from the fraying of the boundary between Tyria and the Mists. Left alone, it presents a danger to this world. Fortunately, Tyria has many defenders to call upon.
- I have some questions I think you can answer. (Same as below)
- You're the expert. Where should I focus first? (Same as below)
- You've got that right.
- (After finding Agony-Torn Gloves)
- That relic you have found is an unexpected providence and a tool you may be able to leverage. A means of grasping at distortion itself...
- I have some questions I think you can answer. (Same as below)
- You're the expert. Where should I focus first? (Same as below)
- Sounds handy.
- (After completing Incursive Investigation: First Recursion and after week one)
- The incursion weakens as you combat its effects. Press onward, and take rest as you need it.
- I have some questions I think you can answer. (Same as below)
- You're the expert. Where should I focus first? (Same as below)
- I won't try to finish this all at once, I promise.
- (After completing Incursive Investigation: Second Recursion and after week two)
- The conclusion of our endeavor is near, hero. Continue on your way, and the goal is within reach.
- I have some questions I think you can answer. (Same as below)
- You're the expert. Where should I focus first? (Same as below)
- I'll keep on keeping on.
- (After completing Incursive Investigation: Third Recursion and after week three)
- The incursion has been resolved by your efforts. I cannot say that we will never see such events again, but you have proven there is a path to remedy them.
- I have some questions I think you can answer. (Same as below)
- We'll confront trouble as many times as it takes.
- I have some questions I think you can answer.
- I do not claim to be all-knowing, and there are some secrets I must keep. But I will answer as well as I can.
- Could you clarify how we're going to stop the incursion?
- By combating the incursion effects in Tyria and entering the fractals themselves, you will dampen a resonance in the Mists. As instability can perpetuate itself, so too can stability.
- On that topic, then, where can I focus right now? (Continues with "The core task before us" below)
- I have another question.
- Makes sense. I'll get to it.
- (Before completing Incursive Investigation)
- Just what are you, anyway?
- I am of the Mists. Regrettably, this limits my ability to act directly in Tyria's defense, but I ask your for[sic] understanding. As much as I am able, I will support your progress in the fractals.
- I have another question.
- Fair enough. I won't turn away a helping hand.
- (After completing Incursive Investigation)
- Will you tell me more about yourself now?
- As the Mists shift, the need for secrets abates. I, Razah, was born a prisoner in the Realm of Torment and freed by an ancient hero of Tyria. It was then that I began to see a purpose for myself.
- What did you do then?
- I accompanied that hero on many journeys, learned myriad lessons, and saw the breadth of Tyria. Eventually, I returned to the Mists, but I still wish to carry on the hero's will to protect this world.
- And that's the purpose you decided on?
- I came to believe that no being has a set role. All things adapt, discover, grow, and make and remake themselves. Those journeys were a purpose in their own right.
- Thanks for sharing your story. Will we meet again?
- (If revenant)
- Even from the Mists, I may one day be able to lend you my support, revenant. May we meet again in peaceful times—or as allies against threats to that peace.
- I have another question.
- I'll look forward to that.
- (If not revenant)
- Though I cannot presently remain in Tyria at great length, I would like that. May we meet again in peaceful times—or as allies against threats to that peace.
- I have another question.
- I'll hope for those times as well.
- I have another question.
- Well said.
- I have another question.
- It sounds like they had a big impact on your life.
- I have another question.
- I'm glad to be introduced.
- (After finding Agony-Torn Gloves)
- What do you know about those gloves?
- A relic that must have endured a long time in the Mists, enchanted to leverage the distortions therein. I cannot identify their origin, but an opportunity to make good on their design presents itself.
- How so?
- The fragmentary dust you have found in disturbed fractals can be used to reinforce the relic's own stability. A fortunate alignment.
- I have another question.
- I was already committed, but that's a legendary incentive.
- I have another question.
- I'll get to it, then.
- Let's circle back to the crisis at hand. (Continues with "The incursion phenomena" above)
- Thanks, but I should actually get moving.
- (Before completing Incursive Investigation)
- You're the expert. Where should I focus first?
- (If Weekly Fractal Quickplay is not completed)
- The core task before us is to bring fractals to their completion state. To rally Tyria's defenders to this goal, weekly bounties have been posted in Lion's Arch.
- (If Incursive Investigation: Chasing Shadows is not completed, this applies to all Chasing Shadows achievement numbers)
- Although we combat the cause of the incursions in the fractals, we must also act to address the disturbances within Tyria. Do you wish to see the details gathered on the incursion areas?
- Show me the achievement. (Opens the corresponding achievement)
- Thanks. I'll take it from here.
- (If all currently unlocked achievements mentioned above are completed)
- I believe it is a good time to assist your allies. Shall I show you the full list of objectives they have identified?
- All right. Please show me the achievements. (Opens the Incursive Investigation achievement category)
- Thanks. I'll take it from here.
- (After completing Incursive Investigation)
- Is there any way I can get another set of gloves?
- For an artifact of the fractals, the possibility of an alternative form is there. However, it may require a much greater outlay of materials to create the needed conditions.
- Show me what you have in mind. (Opens Legendary Glove Crafting vender tab)
- Let me ponder that a bit.
- Good-bye.
Talking to Frode[edit]
- Always a pleasure, Wayfinder. How can I help?
- Let's talk about the fractal incursion.
- (Before finding Agony-Torn Gloves)
- I'll relay what I can understand from the ward investigators. In short, the fractals generated here in Lion's Arch have been destabilized by recent events—both the Kryptis and Janthir conflicts.
- I have a few questions for you. (Same as below)
- What's our next step from your perspective? (Continues with "Here's a list of hotspots" below)
- Sounds like something I should make time for.
- (After finding Agony-Torn Gloves)
- I have the ward's artifact specialists checking over that glove you found. They call it an out-of-place item-not native to the fractal you found it in, but persisting anyway.
- I have a few questions for you. (Same as below)
- What's our next step from your perspective? (Continues with "Here's a list of hotspots" below)
- I see.
- (After completing Incursive Investigation: First Recursion and after week one)
- Looks like the plan is going well! The mages tell me that the fractal agitation is calming, so your efforts are working.
- I have a few questions for you. (Same as below)
- What's our next step from your perspective? (Continues with "Here's a list of hotspots" below)
- I'll keep at it.
- (After completing Incursive Investigation: Second Recursion and after week two)
- The stabilization is almost finished—just a bit more effort. You know the drill at this point, but is there anything I or the ward can illuminate?
- I have a few questions for you. (Same as below)
- What's our next step from your perspective? (Continues with "Here's a list of hotspots" below)
- I'll keep at it.
- (After completing Incursive Investigation: Third Recursion and after week three)
- As always, I'm impressed but not surprised, Wayfinder. You have a knack for finding trouble, and also for solving it. We'll be keeping a close eye on the fractals in case of a repeat.
- I have a few questions for you. (Same as below)
- You're no slouch, either. See you at the next calamity, then?
- I have a few questions for you.
- Of course. I'm happy to share as much as the Astral Ward knows.
- What's our plan for stabilizing the fractals?
- In short, clear out as many as we can as a sort of reset. Additionally, we need to protect Tyrians from any incursions—that'll be my focus.
- On that topic, then, what's the next step here in Tyria? (Continues with "Here's a list of hotspots" below)
- I have another question.
- I'll check in if I need guidance on that front.
- What does the ward know about this Mist Stranger?
- They're a Mists entity from outside of Tyria, but they are as dedicated to it as you and I. Isgarren and the stranger had a noninterference pact of some kind, but we're all working on getting along lately.
- I have another question.
- Coming from Isgarren, that sounds like enthusiastic approval.
- (After finding Agony-Torn Gloves)
- Learned anything more about that glove I found?
- I'll say this: the vault would prefer we lock it up. But I think it might be something we need now-it seems to be built to inter Mists fluctuations like the one we're fighting.
- That's promising, but how can we restore it?
- That fractalline dust you've been finding. It's apparently a leftover distortion-and with it, the ward mages tell me they can undo the wear and tear on the gloves.
- I have another question.
- We'll need plenty more, then. I'm on it.
- I have another question.
- Good thing I stumbled across it, then.
- Shouldn't you be off on vacation by now?
- Look who's talking! You're overdue for a relaxing beach trip yourself, Wayfinder. But neither of us are the sort who can ignore trouble, so let's get this one dealt with, then discuss time off.
- I have another question.
- Ha, you've got me there.
- Let's circle back to the crisis at hand. (Continues with "I'll relay what I can understand" above)
- Thanks, but I should actually get moving.
- (Before completing Incursive Investigation)
- I could use a clear next step. What can you point me toward?
- (If Incursive Investigation: Threat Preparation 1 is not completed)
- Here's a list of hotspots. When trouble looms, you'll want to be able to jump in quick with the waypoint network, so this ahead-of-time legwork is crucial.
- Show me the achievement. (Opens the Incursive Investigation: Threat Preparation 1 achievement)
- Thanks. I'll take it from here.
- (After completing Incursive Investigation: Threat Preparation 1 and before completing Incursive Investigation: Threats to Tyria 1)
- Now that you're prepared to move at a moment's notice, it's time to bring down some calamities. These threats may not be straight from the fractals, but stabilizing their areas starts with them.
- Show me the achievement. (Opens the Incursive Investigation: Threats to Tyria 1 achievement)
- Thanks. I'll take it from here.
- (If Incursive Investigation: Threat Preparation 2 is unlocked and not completed)
- I have my eye on a few more large-scale troublemakers. Just like before, I'd like you to scout the area and activate the key waypoints first.
- Show me the achievement. (Opens the Incursive Investigation: Threat Preparation 2 achievement)
- Thanks, I'll take it from here.
- (After completing Incursive Investigation: Threat Preparation 2 and before completing Incursive Investigation: Threats to Tyria 2)
- The ward has put together a short list of dangerous behemoths—remnants of the dragon war. In the worst case, the incursion's effects could give them a boost. Bring them down before then.
- Show me the achievement. (Opens the Incursive Investigation: Threats to Tyria 2 achievement)
- Thanks, I'll take it from here.
- (If Incursive Investigation: Threat Preparation 3 is unlocked and not completed)
- The Astral Ward has identified one last target to prevent downstream effects of the incursions, and it'll take more than a small group. Here's a list of waypoints to get before drawing blades.
- All right. Please show me the achievements. (Opens the Incursive Investigation: Threat Preparation 3 achievement)
- Thanks, I'll take it from here.
- (After completing Incursive Investigation: Threat Preparation 3 and before completing Incursive Investigation: Threats to Tyria 3)
- You've cleared the way for the last operation outside of the fractals—the great jungle wurm of Bloodtide Coast. Good luck out there, Wayfinder.
- Show me the achievement. (Opens the Incursive Investigation: Threats to Tyria 3 achievement)
- Thanks, I'll take it from here.
- (If all currently unlocked achievements mentioned above are completed)
- You've cleared out the tasks I had earmarked, but the operation isn't over. I can show you the investigation list; be sure to check in as we continue.
- All right, please show me the achievements. (Opens the Incursive Investigation achievement category)
- Thanks, I'll take it from here.
- Good-bye.
Talking to Assistant Subdirector Rannu[edit]
- Salutations, Commander! I'm here to represent the Consortium's obligations in cleaning up this little fractal fracas. Just let me know what you need! (Some terms and conditions apply.)
- Let's talk about the fractal incursions.
- (Before finding Agony-Torn Gloves)
- According to current reports, this incursion event is due to numerous recent Mists-adjacent upheavals. No blame intended. Our troubleshooters aren't enough, which is where you come in.
- I have a few questions for the Consortium. (Same as below)
- Got any quests? (Same as below)
- I'd better get a cool badge if I'm doing the job.
- (After finding Agony-Torn Gloves)
- As you know, the Fractals of the Mists attraction operates on a "finder's rights" system regarding "epic loot." Our geniuses are happy to help restore your relic.
- I have a few questions for the Consortium. (Same as below)
- Got any quests? (Same as below)
- I do like winning.
- (After completing Incursive Investigation: First Recursion and after week one)
- As forecast, your direct involvement has the stabilization project achieving its milestones! Keep this up, and I'll have to recommend you for a promotion. Maybe a glowing letter of reference?
- I have a few questions for the Consortium. (Same as below)
- Got any quests? (Same as below)
- I'll hold you to that.
- (After completing Incursive Investigation: Second Recursion and after week two)
- Indeed, indeed. At this rate I'll be promoted to over-assistant, no doubt. Anyway, the techs tell me the fractal numbers are looking good. Just a bit more crunch, Commander.
- I have a few questions for the Consortium. (Same as below)
- Got any quests? (Same as below)
- It all comes back to those fractal numbers.
- (After completing Incursive Investigation: Third Recursion and after week three)
- The fractals are ready for tourism once more, and you've got a fancy new toy in compensation. That's a gold result! Keep an eye on your mail for future collaboration opportunities!
- I have a few questions for the Consortium. (Same as below)
- I'll look forward to the next Fractal Rush.
- I have a few questions for the Consortium.
- Not to worry. The Consortium's largely unsecured data banks are at your disposal. What can I check for you?
- Could you explain how we're going to stop the incursion?
- Normally, our troubleshooter team keeps things in line. This time, we need more manpower, and that's where you and this promotional effort come in Cleared fractals are stable fractals.
- On that topic, then, what's the next step here in Tyria? (Continues with "Unfortunately, some Consortium employees" below)
- I have another question.
- Works for me.
- Does the Consortium know anything about the Mist Stranger?
- I've got nothing there, except that they make my ears twitch. Probably some demon from a fractal, but as the humans say, a friend in need is a friend to feed Or something about wolves?
- I have another question.
- I guess we're not in a position to pry.
- (After finding Agony-Torn Gloves)
- Do you have any information about that mysterious pair of gloves?
- The Consortium lab team reports that it's "crazy." Reading between the lines, the gloves seem to draw in planar instability for later destructive use. Sounds nice, eh?
- That's promising, but how can we restore it?
- Pour enough fractal sand on something, and it'll get fixed. Well, I can't really back that up, but that's the core idea. Equivalent exchange of entropic modes, et cetera.
- I have another question.
- (If asura)
- Seems like you actually understand the science in depth.
- (Otherwise)
- You leave me no choice but to believe in your sand science.
- I have another question.
- That does sound interesting.
- How are things going with the Consortium?
- The Consortium appreciates your interest in our endeavors! Rest assured, we are committed to a safe, legal vision of Mists tourism. As for me...I dunno. I've been better. Wanna clear some fractals?
- I have another question.
- Keep your head up. Someday it won't be all new disasters. I hope.
- Let's circle back to the crisis at hand.
- Thanks, but I should actually get moving.
- (Before completing Incursive Investigation)
- I'm looking for a specific objective. Got any quests?
- (If Incursive Investigation: Troubleshooting 1 is not completed)
- Unfortunately, some Consortium employees were caught up in the incursion phenomenon when it started. We'd like you to recover their troubleshooter badges, and we'll compensate you for the work.
- Show me the achievement. (Opens the Incursive Investigation: Troubleshooting 1 achievement)
- Thanks. I'll take it from here.
- (After completing Incursive Investigation: Troubleshooting 1 and before completing Incursive Investigation: Stabilizing the Core)
- To ensure that the incursion effect is addressed at the source, we need to confirm that certain fractals have been cleared at least once. I have a handy list here to record which ones you've cleared.
- Show me the achievement. (Opens the Incursive Investigation: Stabilizing the Core achievement)
- Thanks. I'll take it from here.
- (If Incursive Investigation: Troubleshooting 2 is unlocked and not completed)
- The techs have gotten pings from a few more troubleshooter badges. It may be tricky to find them, but the Consortium will thank you for any you can return to us.
- Show me the achievement. (Opens the Incursive Investigation: Troubleshooting 2 achievement)
- Thanks. I'll take it from here.
- (After completing Incursive Investigation: Troubleshooting 2 and before completing Incursive Investigation: Stabilizing the Classics)
- We've set things up to get you into the fractals quickly and easily, but we need checks done on some outside of that set. Want to see a list of exciting fractals?
- Show me the achievement. (Opens the Incursive Investigation: Stabilizing the Classics achievement)
- Thanks. I'll take it from here.
- (If Incursive Investigation: Troubleshooting 3 is unlocked and not completed)
- Looks like we finally got the last locations of missing troubleshooter badges... It'd mean a lot if you could bring them back.
- Show me the achievement. (Opens the Incursive Investigation: Troubleshooting 3 achievement)
- Thanks. I'll take it from here.
- (After completing Incursive Investigation: Troubleshooting 3 and before completing Incursive Investigation: Stabilizing Outside the Lines)
- Once again, we've got a few last fractals to confirm clearance on. This'll start feeling a little real, but you're up for it, right? Want to see the list, at least?
- Show me the achievement. (Opens the Incursive Investigation: Stabilizing Outside the Lines achievement)
- Thanks. I'll take it from here.
- (If all currently unlocked achievements mentioned above are completed)
- The Consortium's quest backlog is currently empty. Please check back as we continue to work to serve our customers. In the meantime, want to see the general lists?
- All right. Please show me the achievements. (Opens the Incursive Investigation achievement category)
- Thanks. I'll take it from here.
- Good-bye.
Approaching the Fractal Incursion Conference next to Coordinator Bixx[edit]
- Here to help with the fractal incursion? The Lionguard have reserved a nearby tavern for meetings, if you'd prefer a private setting to plan.
- That sounds great. Please take me there. (Opens the Fractal Incursion Conference instance)
- No thanks.
