Title

The list of unlocked titles in the Achievements tab of the Hero panel

Title is a flavor text that players can choose to display in their character's nameplate. Titles are unlocked account-wide by completing various in-game objectives, most commonly through their respective achievements. All titles are purely cosmetic and offer no benefits other than showing them.

A title can be selected individually for each character from the list of the unlocked titles – a box in the upper-left corner of the Achievements tab in the Hero panel. If selected, a title will appear in white text under the name of the character whenever the name is visible.

Besides achievements, there are other methods of unlocking titles. For example, by reaching milestones of the accumulated achievement points, having a character reach a certain age, from pre-purchasing an expansion, etc.

Anomaly:

After linking your Guild Wars accounts, the God Walking Amongst Mere Mortals sometimes fails to show as an option from the title drop down. You can fix this by closing Guild Wars 2, launching Guild Wars 1, and then selecting a character that has the GWAMM title. Close the program and restart Guild Wars 2.
