The All Seer is a point of interest in the Temple of the Blessed Mantle, within the Eternity's Garden.

History[edit]

Early history[edit]

Seer pilgrims and aspirants of the Rite of Divinity venturing deeper into Castora passed through the Dome of the Indelible Word within the Sanctum of the Divine in Eternity's Garden to worship a revered a statue which represented the very concept of being a seer rather than any particular individual in the seer horde.[1]

When the seers began waging a long and devastating war against their former mursaat allies, the seer doyen Sidony commanded his fellow seers to leave Castora to assault the Valley of Agony in Janthir where they believed they could deal a decisive blow against the mursaat who had been spotted there.[2][3] However, the seers did not want to leave Castora undefended in case trespassers, including the banished seer Isgarren, found their way there, so they constructed a more massive version of the sacred dome's revered statue and placed it in the center of their ritual grounds of the Temple of the Blessed Mantle. This statue would be known as the All Seer; however, unlike its original namesake, specific seers infused this larger statue with their will and souls to empower its magic. The six seers who took on this task became the All Seer's unaging avatars tasked with defending the statue itself as well as the feretories housing seer souls from harm.[4][5][6][7]

As the seers were already busy with the war, they had to improvise with enhancing Castora's defenses on short notice. They used the All Seer's arcane chains from a long distance to magically bind the native Castoran creatures Gwyllian and Kela to serve as immortal seneschals and defend the island continent and artifacts in the seers' absence in their designated territories.[4][8] Sidony used a large shadowstone within the Temple of the Blessed Mantle to weave a curse to affect all of Castora and binding it to the All Seer as well as a scroll meant for Isgarren's banishment.[9]

Visions of Eternity[edit]

As the All Seer activated, it emanated dangerous fumes which pooled into toxic magic filling the ritual grounds as an additional defense mechanism. The statue summoned its arcane chains on any trespasser using any mount not native to Castora; it treated any approaching creatures it was not familiar with as foreign threats to be eliminated.[8]

Legacy[edit]

Following the All Seer's defeat, the chains it had used to bind Gwyllian and Kela were severed, freeing the seneschals from their millennia-long arcane enslavement and making them more docile.

Trivia[edit]

  • During the development of The Only Way, there were discussions about whether the zone's meta boss should be another living and breathing seneschal which would control Gwyllian and Kela. However, the team ultimately settled on making the third seneschal an arcane construct instead.[8]

Historian Minna: "The All Seer"—the great statue infused with the...will, for lack of a better term...
Historian Minna: ...the will of seers who willingly gave their lives, let's say? Its function was to control the seneschals.
Historian Minna: Perhaps you saw the chainlike magic affect them, yes? That, ah, influenced the seneschals to protect Castora. [...]
Historian Minna: The All Seer had to be defeated, from my understanding of the curse.
Historian Minna: Whether the seneschals being freed was a requirement or a side effect is a question we might never know the answer to.
Historian Minna: I for one am pleased to see them freed. They are friendly but still quite protective of this land.
Historian Minna: I can see why, in desperation, the seers used them as guardians in their absence.
