Ambient dialogue[edit]

Jortun the Cunning: Stay alert, Wayfinder.
Jortun the Cunning: Keep at eye open for Inquest. Ash Legion scouts say they're stationed to the north, but we're still assessing the situation.
Jortun the Cunning: Be careful, there are all sorts of seer defenses in the jungle. The further we venture, the stronger they become.
Ember Doomforge: Well, soldier, still think draggin' a whole tank out here was a good idea?
Lieutenant Slickfix: You won't be so smug when I blast my way into that temple and send that Vloxx guy packin'.
Ember Doomforge: Really? What's your plan for gettin' it across the lake?
Lieutenant Slickfix: What lake?
Tavi Foescream: (chuckles)
Ember Doomforge: Real strange up north. Not Dragonbrand levels of strange, but still...
Lieutenant Slickfix: You're right. The magic is even thicker here; makes my fur stand on end.
Tavi Foescream: If I never set foot on a tropical island again, I'll be happy for it. (scoffs) Downtime my tail...
Tavi Foescream: Locked ruins, magic traps... Could've used your guy for this op, Doomforge.
Ember Doomforge: My guys? You've gotta stop sniffin' the fungus out here, cub.
Tavi Foescream: You know who I mean. The human, Dougal. The guy you nabbed the Claw of the Khan-Ur with.
Ember Doomforge: Ah... Not a bad idea. Can't exactly ask the alliance for backup—not until the waypoints improve, at least.
Tavi Foescream: Here's hopin'...
Astral Ward Protector Nils: Here's your food. If you don't like it, take it up with the next guard on shift.
Engineer Kloxxam: It's better than leftover "defect hash."
Astral Ward Protector Nils: Keep the details to—
Engineer Kloxxam: The cook would take the edible bits from cybernetic experiments that went sideways.
Astral Ward Protector Nils: And now I'm not hungry.
Astral Ward Protector Nils: What caused you to break ranks, exactly?
Engineer Kloxxam: I joined the Inquest as a botanist. Biotech stuff. Wanted to develop new medicines, cure a disease or two.
Astral Ward Protector Nils: But the colleges wouldn't fund your research?
Engineer Kloxxam: No, they wouldn't, and after joining the Inquest, I began racking up debts and favors.
Engineer Kloxxam: Sebb had me making mind altering sedatives for his experiments; I wasn't about to do the same for Kuda.
Engineer Kloxxam: Alchemy... I haven't helped anyone.
Priory Scholar Iikku: When I first joined this mission, I though the Inquest were going to be like the Jade Brotherhood...
Priory Scholar Iikku: Misguided, but not entirely evil. From that I've witnessed, though... Cantha's scourge is but a chill compared to yours.
Priory Scholar Liorra: If you think Vloxx's Inquest are bad, you should read up on Kuda's father. He was a vile, vile overseer. We don't miss him.
Priory Scholar Liorra: I never met him myself, but I did hear of his "prestige" then I was studying at the colleges. I shudder.
Priory Scholar Liorra: I can't imagine Kuda's much better. The progeny doesn't fall far from the progenitor.
Priory Scholar Liorra: Based on the commander's reports, Vloxx is probably the only thing keeping her from resorting to old Inquest antics.
Isgarren: Ah. Quite the tome you have there. The Age of Giants...
Historian Meliza: Just fascinating to read actual seer research and speculation on how it ended.
Historian Meliza: To carry the weight of that knowledge... I can't imagine.
Isgarren: I wouldn't wish it on anyone.
Historian Meliza: The references to the bastions of Stellis Quor in these writings... Were the bastions in Amnytas an homage to that?
Isgarren: Mm, yes. Although the city was far grander. The shining heart of our start, our civilization.
Historian Meliza: And all of it just...lost to the war.
Historian Meliza: Has Minna been in contact with you? Must be neck deep in her research on the northern temple.
Isgarren: She has indeed. Quite determined, that one. (chuckles) No mystery is safe from her.
Historian Meliza: I know that tone. Don't even think about poaching her for your little library in the sky.
Isgarren: Me? Please. Besides... (clears throat) I was going to ask you.
Historian Meliza: Oh.
Historian Meliza: Did I see a dog bolt through the camp a few minutes ago?
Isgarren: Zeke goes where he pleases. It is his way.
Historian Meliza: A kindred spirit of yours, hm?
Mayor Osborne: Gotta couple more crates o' stuff from the village for myou.
Mayor Osborne: Some blankets. Salve for burns. Food. Though, heard you folk are gettin' real tired of crab.
Ingvil the Restful: I'm sure we'll manage. Thank you, Mayor Osborne.
Mayor Osborne: Sure thing. Kids even volunteered to come fight for ya, but that sounded like a bad idea. They packed you some toys instead.
Mayor Osborne: Though, don't know what good those'll do. Kindling for your fire, maybe? I won't tell.
Lieutenant Breida: All right, listen up, everyone. The magic here is intense and unpredictable, so we need to be smart.
Lieutenant Breida: Don't work solo whenever it can be avoided. If you get incapacitated, a partner might be able to rescue you.
Lieutenant Breida: Test the magic before you interact with it. At least throw a rock or something first.
Lieutenant Breida: Trust your scanners more than you trust your eyes, and be patient. Haste is no good if you're dead.
Lieutenant Breida: Any questions?
Lieutenant Breida: Good. Dismissed.
Astral Ward Evina: I am not a fan of Director Vloxx or Overseer Kuda, but I'm relieved we don't have to face the principal biomancer in battle.
Olaf the Bloodwatcher: Yeah. Every time I see one of his abominations, I pray to Wolf they are met with a civil end...if they're even still alive.
Astral Ward Evina: Absolutely dreadful, the things he did...
Astral Ward Soldier Arden: I only have one more question. The forge. What are they seeking to accomplish there? How worried should we be?
Engineer Znitte: Not sure, but like I said, Vloxx and Kuda seem to be on different paths. The overseer is leading the operations at the forge.
Engineer Znitte: Her krewes were trying to power it up. Not sure if they were successful, but something seemed to catch her interest.
Engineer Znitte: Didn't see much of the director before I took off, though, so I can't speak for him. Like I said, different goals.
Engineer Znitte: That's partly why I decided to defect. Too messy.
Astral Ward Soldier Arden: Lines up with others' reports. Thanks. I'll make sure the council is aware of your cooperation in case you face trial.
Kanata Redwing: Inquest swarming all over out there. What are they looking for?
Kanata Redwing: Didn't they already get the staff thing? Ancora? Wasn't that what they were after?
Astral Ward Ornn: I gather the ol' man thinks they can use it here to become more powerful, somehow.
Kanata Redwing: You might wanna watch out with the "ol' man" stuff. Isgarren can be touchy.
Astral Ward Ornn: Relax. I'm jokin'. And he is old. Besides, he's sick as a dog. If ever there was a time to offend him, that is it.
Rytandor Blightcaller: See anything worth reporting to Ember?
Canria Ragesplitter: The immediate area is clear of Inquest. Most of their fortifications have been established to the north.
Canria Ragesplitter: Did find an abandoned camp of theirs just west of us. Didn't see anything helpful, but could probably use another set of eyes.
Rytandor Blightcaller: Plant a listening device?
Canria Ragesplitter: Oh, yeah. Not making that mistake again.
