The seers imbued the natural denizens of Castora with great power and set them to guard their sacred island. Confront Kela, Senechal of Waves, and drive her off to help secure the coast.

Guardian's Glade is the first raid encounter for the Guild Wars 2: Visions of Eternity expansion. It contains story details from Truths Unearthed story chapter.

Getting there[edit]

Players must own the Visions of Eternity expansion, be max level (80), and be in a raid-mode (10 player) squad to join.

  • Enter the Raid (map icon).png Raid — Combined portal in Lion's Arch Aerodrome (Waypoint (map icon).png Aerodrome Waypoint).
  • Join via the pop-up box when the raid instance is opened.

Objectives[edit]

  • Pick up the seer relic to start the encounter.
  • Challenge Mode: Inactive/Active
  • Defeat Kela, Seneschal of the Tides.
  • Time remaining: 10:00
  • Storm Progress
  • Survive the storm.
  • Raid encounter complete!

  • Many important mechanics are hidden unless Character Model Limit is increased.
  • A player must interact with the Cursed Artifact to begin the encounter.

Kela, Seneschal of Waves[edit]

Enrage Effect: Defeats all players
Fixation Mechanic: Player that holds the Cursed Artifact

Recurring mechanics[edit]

This encounter alternates between a calm and storm phase, where players first focus on damaging Kela then avoiding her to survive.

The below table lists mechanics found during both phases:

Mechanic Notes
Aura (Kela) Pulsing damage every 3 seconds.
Cursed Artifact Grants the  Throw Light.png Throw Relic special action skill. Kela fixates on this target, indicated by a purple fixate icon.
All players are instantly defeated if Kela consumes the artifact.
Crocodiles Kela summons 2-3 crocodiles that target a random [verification requested] player, indicated by a red fixate icon, red line between them and the target, and the Fixated.png Hunted effect.
Tackle skill inflicts unevadable and unblockable Knockdown.png Knockdown, indicated by stopped movement then a pounce. Can be mitigated with Stability.png Stability.
Veteran and Elite Crocodilian Razortooths spawn during the calm and storm phases, respectively. Veterans can be interrupted with CC's due to not having a defiance bar.
Executor of Waves
(Crabs)
Spawns a sandy, non-damaging AoE that grows and inflicts Goop.png Loose Sand (-50% move speed). AoE stops growing and persists when defeating a crab, but can be removed by Kela's wave.
Pulses Might.png25 Might (1s), Protection.png Protection (1s), and Resolution.png Resolution (1s) to Kela every 2 seconds if she's within.
Calm phase: Spawns 10 seconds into the fight then every 15 seconds. Each crab progresses the event bar by a tick upon spawning, after 4 seconds, then every 2 seconds.
Any alive crabs sync together on future calm phases, indicated by larger bar progress every 2 second as each crab contributes independent of each other.
Storm phase: AoE pulses Relentless Speed.png1 Relentless Speed to Kela every 2 seconds if she's within.
Scalding Wave Large wave through the center or sides every 15 seconds, will not spawn in the zone that Kela is in when triggered, randomly selects one of the other two sections.
Unavoidable (cannot be mitigated with evades, invulnerability, or Distortion.png Distortion). Removes all boons and inflicts Burning.png10 Burning and Knockback.png Knockback.
Tornado Inflicts Knockback.png Knockback. Each storm phase spawns a tornado that persists for the entire encounter. Can be mitigated with Stability.png Stability, allowing players to safely traverse tornadoes.
  • Crabs may sometimes spawn during the storm phase. This will sometimes persist for future fight attempts until a new instance is opened. These crabs sync together during the calm phase, but are not synced with those that previously spawned during the calm phase. This may lead to bar pulses every second instead of larger bar pulses every 2 seconds (when all crabs synced together). This bug does seemingly occure when killing one a crab during phase transitions.[verification requested]
  • Crocodiles' fixate mechanic can be a little broken. Players can have red fixate markers without having a crocodile tethered to them, and players may sometimes have a crocodile aggroed without seeing a red tether.

Calm phase[edit]

The encounter begins with this phase where players must subdue Kela as much as they can before the impending storm arrives. An event bar gradually fills up. The next phase occurs upon reaching 20 ticks, with each crab contributing ticks (see Crabs mechanic above). Players can thus delay the storm phase by defeating the crabs as soon as possible.

Applies Targeted.png Biting Swarm (30s) to a random player within range of Kela. Indicated by an orange AoE around them and then activates after 1 second.
Unavoidable damage starting at 2% max health then increasing by 1.5% max health per second. Can be spread to an unaffected player to reset damage per stack.
Claw Slam Frontal wide-cone AoE that inflicts Knockdown.png Knockdown.
Rend Asunder Grabs fixated player and anyone near them (indicated by sound cue), inflicting heavy damage, Stun.png Stun (3s) and Vulnerability.png1 Shredded Armor (120s), which increases damage taken, then throws them.
Unavoidable throw but can avoid the damage and Vulnerability.png Shredded Armor by standing far enough away.
Rending Claws Two frontal melee swipes.
Sidle Step Evasive move similar to Chak Gerent's that inflicts Knockdown.png Knockdown.
Stomp Unblockable semi-circular AoE on Kela's left.
Redirect Arrow.pngStomp Unblockable semi-circular AoE on Kela's right.
Burrow Kela burrows into the ground and starts the next phase of the fight.

Additionally after each storm phase, Kela's defiance bar unlocks and only uses the below skill during it. Crabs and Waves will continue to spawn and are not affected by this skill.

Skill Notes
Tantrum Unblockable and unevadable damage every 1.5 seconds until defiance bar is broken. Can be mitigated with invulnerability and Distortion.png Distortion.

Storm phase[edit]

This phase begins once the previous event bar has been completely filled. This is replaced by a new event bar. Players must survive until the bar has been fully depleted (1 minute).

The below table lists new skills during this phase:

Ambush Fancy AoE (larger than telegraphed) that instantly defeats nearby players when boss emerges from the ground.
Lightning Strike Multiple circular AoEs that inflict Stun.png Stun (2s).

Shortly after Kela burrows, a set of 3 Elite Crocodilian Razortooths spawn. They have the following skills:

Skill Notes
Tackle Unblockable deadly lunge attack with a wind-up that inflicts Knockdown.png Knockdown and damages enemies in an AoE around the targeted player. This cannot be mitigated through Stability.png Stability, invulnerability or blocking. It can however be outranged by waiting for the wind-up and dodging away from the crocodile.
Bite Crocodile basic attack.

Kela gains the Relentless Speed.png Relentless Speed effect every 2 seconds and each time a crab's sandy AoE pulses on her. This effect increases her movement speed per stack (max. 20), making it more difficult to avoid her Ambush attack at higher speeds. This attack occurs whenever she emerges from the ground when near a player or dead Elite Crocodilian Razortooth.

Defeating an elite crocodile spawns a downed version (full health) of it at its location. Luring Kela onto a defeated elite crocodile will reset her stacks of Relentless Speed.png Relentless Speed. This effect also resets prior to each storm phase. If multiple elite crocodiles are downed near to each other, Kela will consume all of them. Furthermore, defeating the downed version crocodile will completely remove it and thus leave no defeated crocodile for Kela to consume.

Challenge mode[edit]

There are several differences between the normal and challenge mode encounters:

    • Fixed an issue that could cause the /gg command to remove the cursed artifact from the Kela, Seneschal of Waves raid encounter and bypass some of the intended fight mechanics.
