"Synchronize!"

Asuran research has led to the creation of a new ooze subspecies, the mercurial mold. When an amalgam is bonded to one of these molds, they can command their mold to take any form - from a blunt weapon to a body-tight shield.

Amalgam is an elite specialization for the engineer unlocked with the Visions of Eternity expansion.

Using specialized mercurial molds, they replace utility toolbelt abilities with morph skills shapeshifted into different forms. Different compositions of the mercurial mold accumulate different strain effects delivered in its Evolve activation. At the same time, use of the mold extends to different stances, allowing the amalgam to transit through a variety of states on the battlefield.[1][2]

Profession mechanic[edit]

The product of asuran science experiments with ooze, the Amalgam shares a symbiotic bond with its subject, melding into various forms to best suit the challenge at hand. Amalgams replace the normal engineer utility abilities with the power to morph. Depending on which form they morph into, the Amalgam has access to a wide variety of boons, buffs, and control effects in combat.

Promo description

  • The amalgam uses a heavily modified tool belt with most slots replaced by skills representing the mercurial mold mechanic:
    • F1 remains a traditional tool belt skill reflecting the equipped healing skill of the character.
    • F2 to F4 become dedicated to a pool of 7 selectable morph skills only available to the amalgam.
      • Each morph skill possesses an activation effect and a strain feature.
    • F5 becomes an Evolve activation. By default, using Evolve will activate all three strain features corresponding to the slotted morph skills.

Lore[edit]

Asuran scientists have studied, manipulated, transformed, and occasionally displaced oozes at every level of scientific research. Endlessly adaptable, oozes can absorb the properties of substances and living creatures they come into contact with—and a recent breakthrough has allowed them to be used as a powerful tool for both defense and offense.

The mercurial mold is a special species of ooze that can form a symbiotic bond with its owner and interpret their needs in battle. It’s lightweight, responds instantly, requires no special feeding, and—best of all—no fatalities have been reported as a result of the bonding process. Why not give it a try?

Trivia[edit]

  • This specialization is likely a homage to the T-1000 from the movie Terminator 2: Judgment Day, which could similarly bend its shape and body to long blades and blunt weapons as shown in the Amalgam's abilities.
    • In Guild Wars, the G-1000, another homage to the T-1000, was also depicted as an ooze, albeit classified as a golem. It is currently unknown whether a connection exists between the Amalgam's mercurial mold and the G-1000.
