Antiquary
“"Another unusual find."
From treasure hunters to scholars, and everything in between, antiquaries wield the relics and artifacts that they've collected through their travels on the battlefield. With the help of their skritt companion, an adept antiquary can disarm, distract, and conquer any enemy - and when the risk is high, so is the reward.
— In-game description
Antiquary is an elite specialization for the thief unlocked with the Visions of Eternity expansion.[1]
With Janthiri artifacts prompting explorers to expand their collections, antiquaries are the pinnacle of accomplished thieves. They partner with skritt assistants to plunder for artifacts from their opponents, exchanging the thief's traditional ability to steal for a selection of artifact skills alongside access to Double Edge utilities that may be used before their cooldown — with the risk of backfiring if used too early.[2]

“Purveyors of rare artifacts, the Antiquary uses its Pilfer skill to call upon the thieving inclination of its skritt companion, stealing from enemies to create random improvised weapons. The Antiquary can also use its unique skills even while on cooldown… at the risk of causing detrimental effects to themselves!
Profession mechanic[edit]
- Skritt Swipe replaces Steal as the F1 for the antiquary, granting two Tyrian artifacts in the F2 and F3 slots upon activation.
- Skritt Swipe draws randomly from four Offensive Artifacts and four Defensive Artifact choices. Artifact draws may be modified through traits.[3]

Lore[edit]
“The balance of black-market trade and above-board commerce in Lion’s Arch has tipped toward legitimacy in recent years, and the Captain's Council has banded together with several smaller factions to claim a place in the Tyrian Alliance. But the discovery of Janthiri artifacts has started a gold rush as explorers hustle to procure rare and valuable items that no living culture can lay claim to.
The somewhat-euphemistically titled antiquaries pride themselves on their scholarly appreciation for the artifacts they acquire. Many even keep a few in their private collections, ready to impress colleagues at the tavern or blindside foes on the battlefield. And whether they’re priory historians or pirates, Lion’s Arch is still their favored nexus for trading and selling their wares and knowledge.
